OUR LOCAL FOOD PANTRIES THANK YOU

YULE FEED FAMILIES 2018 THANK YOU

The Hartland-Lake Country Rotary Club and Lake Country Foundation thank you for the very successful 2018 Yule Feed Families Food Drive.  This year's proceeds benefited the Hartland, North Lake, Kettle Moraine and Pewaukee food pantries.  This year we collected a total of $53,835.37.

This annual drive began in 1991 and continued as a joint effort between the Hartland-Lake Country Rotary/Lake Country Foundation and the Lake Country Reporter.  The drive has experienced tremendous support throughout the years, collecting almost 45,000 food items and nearly $800,000 for the local pantries.

This tradition will continue in December 2019 - so please remember us in your end of year giving plans.  Thanks a ton!

OPPORTUNITY FOR SERVICE

WE NEED THOSE TOWELS

Did you ever get new bathroom towels just to spruce up your bathroom?  Please consider putting those old towels to good use!

Liz Tobolt will be on hand at our meetings for the next 4 weeks to collect your towels for the Hebron House which is a homeless shelter located right here in Waukesha County.  Many people come into the Hebron House for a day shower and return to the streets.  Hebron House residents are often literally living in the woods until they wait out the waiting list to get into one of the 3 nonprofits' residential group home settings.  The help is only designed for 30-45 days and many residents take their towel when they go back to the woods or move on to other housing, as it is one of the few possessions they have.  This is why Hebron House has an extreme need for lightly used towels.  Please consider donating yours.  Oh, by the way, while cleaning out that linen closet, the Hebron House could use used twin-sized bed sheets too (only twin-size).  They have bunk beds.

Liz is collecting these items for the next 4 weeks at our Rotary meetings or at her Delafield First Weber Office.  It's open 7 days/week.
CASINO NIGHT

MEET OUR NEW FUNDRAISER:  CASINO NIGHT

Our meeting on January 25 was designated as a "Committee Meeting" day.  We will be concentrating all of our efforts that day to Fundraising and our newest fundraiser, "Casino Night."  Jeremy Pfaff will be filling us in on all the details for this exciting new club adventure.  Please, please come to share your ideas and to see how you, as a member of the "Greatest Club on Earth" can help make this a big success.

COMMUNITY BOOK SERVICE ANNOUNCED

Swallow School has received a grant to support multi-generational book clubs.  This format invites parents, community members, students, and school staff to read a book germane to all ages and come together for discussion.

The first book,  New York Times Bestseller, Grit: The Power of Passion and Perseverance, by Angela Duckworth, will focus on learning how passion and perseverance can positively influence all of us . “Grit” is a word used frequently in sports, education, business, etc. that is a key factor in the development and growth of perseverance. Research indicates that individuals who have grit tend to be more successful and resilient than those who do not.

The book club will kick-off on January 31 at 6:30 pm at Swallow and feature a short introductory gathering  and snacks will be provided. The book club will conclude with a full book discussion beginning at 6:30 pm on Tuesday, March 12.

Sign-up using THIS LINK. The first 20 participants will receive a free copy of the book, which will be distributed at the introductory meeting on January 31. Click HERE for further information.

Any member of the Swallow community is invited to participate and there will be another book club opportunity in Spring 2019.  If you have questions, please contact Annie DiPietro at dipietroa@swallowschool.org or 262-367-2000.
