Oct. 24, 2017
Hi Rotary Presidents and ADG’s,
As World Polio day is coming up October 24th, our club (Ogopogo) was trying to think of a way to bring a little local publicity to the Polio Cause (and to brag about Rotary).
Apparently, at some point in the past, many local Rotarians got together for one of these Polio Days. The Rotarians then, carried signs and hung banners at street corners and overpasses to raise awareness (not sure of details).
So a few questions,
First: Does anyone have any Polio banners or large Polio signs available that we could use?
Second: Would anyone else like to join in something like this (or another idea)? (We haven’t planned anything solid as of yet until we can gauge interest.)
Thanks for your time,
Kevin Blackmore |

Member of Parliament for Kelowna—Lake Country
Nov. 14, 2017
Stephen Fuhr (born in Edmonton, Alberta and raised in Kamloops, British Columbia) is a former CF-18 fighter pilot with the Canadian Air Force, who has run a military pilot training establishment, and successfully managed a technology company of over 40 employees. After serving with distinction for 20 years, Stephen retired from the Canadian Forces in 2009 with the rank of Major and joined a Kelowna based technology company which develops aviation communication and tracking equipment. As Director of Business Development and CEO, Stephen led the company to financial success in a challenging economic climate. In 2012, he left the company to pursue his first love of flying. With growing interest in politics and the desire to serve his country again, Stephen decided to run for office in the 2015 election. Today, Stephen proudly serves as Member of Parliament for Kelowna-Lake Country and is Chair of the Standing Committee on National Defence. http://sfuhr.liberal.ca/ |

Firesides are an excellent opportunity to share the details of Rotary (Club, District, International) and highlight the Avenues of Service (Club, Vocational, Community, International, and Youth) as well as the committee opportunities and further events (RLI, Development Weekend, District Conference). |

We are forming a satellite club of the Rotary Club of Kelowna that will be called “Rotary Now! Kelowna”, and it offers a connection to a diverse group of like-minded people who want to give back to the community while enjoying networking & fellowship in service and social activities. In particular we are hoping this will be attractive to busy folk who may have trouble with regular attendance at a traditional breakfast or luncheon meeting. Young professionals, entrepreneurs, socially minded of all ages, or more seasoned civic & business leaders… the idea is to be inclusive and innovative. The Club will be different from traditional Rotary Clubs in that… - Meetings are (currently) 4:00-5:00 pm 2x per month (1st & 3rd Wednesday) in a boardroom setting, no meal involved. - There are initially no Rotary “traditions” (anthem, invocation, “happy dollars”, etc) until and unless introduced by the membership. - The non-business weeks (2, 4 & 5 if there is one) will allow for a variety of options that could include: - Social meeting (dinner or other, families & friends included). - Service project (meet where the group is working on a project, again families & friends welcome). - Presentation (not weekly, but as scheduled). - Activity social (monthly walk? bicycle ride? yoga class?!) - E-meeting (as and when similar “sister” clubs are formed elsewhere) |

It's time again for our BEST event of the year! "Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner?" Saturday February 24th @ 6pm Sharp! $20/per person (goes to Rotary general fundraising efforts) Join your fellow Rotarians for a great fellowship evening where members (significant others welcome also) gather for dinner at an unknown location with unknown guests! Those who sign up will be divided into groups which will include one HOST. Everyone else will be asked to bring a bottle or two of wine, PLUS you will be asked to bring one of the following: A few days before the event you will know what you are to provide, i.e. appetizer, salad or dessert or if you are a host you will provide the main course. At Noon on the day of the dinner, the guests will receive an email indicating the address & home phone number (in case you get lost) of your dinner host for the evening. Part of the fun is the surprise when the host opens the door to see who is coming to dinner. The benefit for Rotary is that we get to know fellow Rotarians & significant others in a setting that we might not otherwise encounter. Please RSVP "YES" or "NO" by simply clicking the link below and registering for You and Your Guest. Questions? Call or email Jaime Briggs at 250-215-0015 or Jaime@briggsonhomes.com |
