Rotarians will meet this Thursday, 11:30 am - 1:00 pm in Suite 101 at Mayo Civic Center. Our program will be presented by Rochester Public Department Chief Jim Franklin. Chief Jim Franklin was sworn in as Rochester’s Chief of Police on July 26, 2018. He is the 19th Chief Executive in the City’s 164-year history leading the agency’s 206 employees including both sworn and civilian staff. Arrive at 11:30 for lunch and social time or at noon for lunch, the meeting, and program.
Rochester youth and education-related nonprofits are encouraged to submit an application by January 31 to be considered for a Rotary Community Grant. During the past 31 years, the Rotary clubs of Rochester have provided over $981,335 in grants and scholarships from the net proceeds of the Rotary Holiday Classic basketball showcase. Learn more and find the application online here. Your help is appreciated sharing this information and encouraging any qualifying organizations to apply.
Rotarians attended the 2020 Rochester Downtown Alliance Pitch Night at One Discovery Square on January 14 to request a start-up event grant for our September Chocolate Festival Gala. Gala Chair Donna Greason presented Rotary information and the request for funds. Eight other events presented pitches. Although Rotary did not receive a grant, the evening was a great opportunity to learn more about events taking place in our community and the mission of Rochester Downtown Alliance. All those in attendance, about 100 people, learned about about the work of Rotarians worldwide to eradicate polio and locally to make a positive impact through Camp RYLA, the Rotary Ethics Workshop, Youth Exchange, and STRIVE.
The Rotary Club of Rochester meeting format will change slightly in February, 2020. Instead of Service First Thursday on the first Thursday of each month, Rotarians and friends of Rotary are invited to join us between 5:30 - 7:00 pm in The Sticks (a small room off the main dining room) at Twigs Tavern and Grille. This will be an opportunity to socialize, network, and introduce guests to Rotary. Attendees are encouraged to order beverages and food from the Twigs menu and will pay their bills individually. There will be an 18% gratuity automatically added to checks. Thank you to Rotarian Kristine Ihrke and Twigs for their hospitality hosting us in this location.
Club members who have not yet paid 2019-2020 Rotary dues (invoices originally sent in June, 2019) or made your $40 Rotary Holiday Classic contribution are asked to pay your balance due at this time. Payment can be made through your ClubRunner membership page or by cash, check, or credit card at a meeting or through the Rotary office. A friendly reminder that 2019-2020 Rotary District 5960 and Rotary International dues have already been paid by the club on behalf of all members on the roster July 1. Additionally, ALL Rochester Rotarians are asked to support the Holiday Classic with a contribution. Thank you for your continued financial support of the club and our activities!
