Volunteers Needed for Toy Sorting
Four volunteers are still needed for toy sorting at Salvation Army (20 1 Ave NE) tomorrow evening, Wednesday, October 4, 5:30 - 6:30 pm. The toys are early contributions for this holiday season's Toys for Tots program. The total group will be five and will follow COVID-19 guidelines, serving with masks and physical distancing. Family and friends over the age of 14 are invited to serve, as well. If you are willing to serve, please sign up online here ASAP. Thank you!
Rotary After Hours
Rotarians, along with friends and family, are invited to gather for Rotary After Hours this Thursday, November 5, 5:30 - 6:30 pm, in the Magnolia Room at Centerstone Plaza Hotel, 401 6th St SW, Rochester. This is a Rotary social event which serves as the weekly "meeting" of the club.

Masks are requested to be worn unless you are eating, and physical distancing will be in place. Therefore, numbers are limited, and you are requested to register here if you plan to attend.

Attendees are encouraged to purchase food and beverage as take out from Twigs Tavern and Grille, also in the hotel. You may order online here, call 507-288-0206 to place your order, or order upon arrival and wait, but waitstaff will not be serving the Magnolia Room.
Welcome New Rotarian Lauren Anderson
Welcome to our newest Rotarian Lauren Anderson, sponsored by Ashok Patel. Although Lauren is new to membership, she is not new to Rotary. She participated in a Rotary program as a high school student and has been actively involved with the Rotary grant process, assisting with a District Grant and working on preparing a Global Grant for upcoming submission to Rotary International. We look forward to serving with you, Lauren!
Bell Ringing at Salvation Army
Salvation Army bell ringing is a tradition of The Rotary Club of Rochester, and we will be ringing again this season each Saturday, November 14 - December 19 at HyVee 37th Street, in shifts 8:30 am - 8:30 pm. Please check your schedule and register here to serve. Many times, we are the nonprofit with the largest number of volunteer hours for this activity.

"When you volunteer to bell ring, you help improve, and even save lives. The money dropped in a red kettle goes right back into your local community. By now you’ve likely heard that two hours of your time at a Salvation Army red kettle raises about $60 in donations." (http://salvationarmynorth.org/volunteer/bell-ringer-faq/

To support our service projects the Rochester Rotary Risers are in the midst of our 2nd Annual Calendar Raffle. Here's how it works - your odds of winning are pretty darn good:

    • 365 Winners are drawn - daily winning is $20
    • Special winnings on New Years Day $500, Tax Day $250, 4th of July $250, Labor Day $250, Christmas Day $500, seven other holidays are $100 winners
    • Every ticket drawn is thrown back in the hat so you can win multiple times
    • If your raffle number isn't drawn, you've supported one 1st grader in Rochester attending My Book Day - getting a tour of the library, their own book, a book bag and a library pass. In addition you'll be supporting our international service projects in Guatemala, Nigeria and Honduras
More details are available. If you have any questions contact Debra Christianson at romnrotary@gmail.com
Rotaractors Promote Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

Let’s play a game. I’m American. What assumptions have you just made about me? My parents are Filipino immigrants. How have those assumptions now changed?

Without realizing it, we make assumptions of people on the little we actually know about them. Everyone has some prejudicial beliefs. It’s how society taught us to think. After all, how did societies like mine define lighter skin as the universal truth for “beautiful”? But we CAN change it. We CAN confront these beliefs if we are intentional about it, but we can’t get defensive. We have to accept that our understanding of the world is changing and to do better with our new knowledge.

    SCRIP Available for Purchase
Scrip cards to Apollo Liquor, Kwik Trip, and Menards are still available for purchase to support The Rotary Club of Rochester. Remember, you purchase and spend the cards at face value, and the club receives 5% back from Apollo Liquor and Kwik Trip, and 4% back from Menards. The club gets an additional 5% on purchases at Kwik Trip, other than gas, inside the store.

If you would like to make a scrip purchase, please email the Rotary office with your request. Apollo is sold in $10 increments, and no change is given in store. Kwik Trip may be purchased in increments of $5 up to $25, increments of $25 up to $100, and then $200, $250, and $500. Credit remains on the card until the full value is spent. Menards cards may be purchased in any denomination between $10 and $2000 with the credit remaining on the card, as well. Apollo and Kwik Trip cards will be delivered within a few days, and Menards cards may take up to two weeks. Scrip cards make especially great gifts for celebrations, including birthdays and graduations!

Separate from the Scrip program but another way to support Rotary is Amazon Smile. If you are already shopping on Amazon, please consider shopping Amazon Smile instead. Same items are available, but if you designate The Rotary Club of Rochester Foundation as your organization of choice, Amazon donates a portion of your purchase to RCRF. Thank you for your support!
