Jeremiah Program Cook 4 Kids is January 13

The Rotary Club of Rochester's next Cook 4 Kids at Jeremiah Program is Tuesday, January 13.

We'll be serving hot soups and salad. The moms prefer pasta-based soups but your favorite soup is welcome (no chili, please). If you sign-up to bring soup, please have enough to serve eight people. At least two vegetarian options are needed. If you can't bring soup, there are other options you can sign-up to donate.

The total number of moms and kids we'll be serving can reach 60, however 45 is more common and kids eat less than adults. We always have “leftovers”, which is great to leave in the refrigerator for families!

You can help by donating to the meal, serving the meal from 4:00-6:00 pm, or both. Please sign-up HERE to help. Thank you!

Rotarians celebrate Amelia Witherstine at statue unveiling
A statue honoring Amelia Witherstine, the first woman elected to public office in Rochester, was unveiled on December 9 in downtown Rochester’s Central Park. The Rotary Clubs of Rochester and the Rotary Club of Owatonna via Rotary District 5960’s grants program, contributed funds to help have the statue commissioned.

Witherstine was elected to the Rochester School Board in 1911 and later became the board’s first female president. In the early 1920s, she also became the first woman to serve on an Olmsted County jury.

Karen and Merlin Ricklefs, members of The Rotary Club of Rochester, attended the statue unveiling. Karen was elected to the Rochester school board in 1970 and was the second woman to serve as the school board’s president following in the footsteps of Witherstine.

Pictured in the photo, L-R: Elaine Case, Mayor Kim Norton, Jerome Ferson, Joanne Rosener, Amelia Witherstine statue, Allie Good, Gail Baker, Judith O’Fallon. View a photo of Karen and Merlin admiring the statue at the Post-Bulletin.
