The Small Group Gatherings are being held in place of Rotation Day due to lack of hosts.
The Rochester Rotary Clubs are sponsoring a male foreign exchange student, Ruben, from Spain to attend Mayo High School during the 2022-23 school year. During the school year, three families within the same high school attendance area (or able to provide transport if outside the area) are needed to host the student from mid-August – early June (approximately August-November, December-March, March-June). The exchange student does not require their own room, as they can share a room with a host sibling of the same gender as long as they have their own bed. A proper place to study is also needed and they are required to attend school. The first Thursday of the month has been designated by The Rotary Club of Rochester as a time for TRCR committee meetings to convene.
So, what happens from 11:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. the first Thursday of the month? To encourage members to participate in club committees, the first Thursday of the month has been designated as a time when members of club committees can meet during the club's originally scheduled meeting time. This saves members from trying to find another time outside of the club's regular weekly meeting time to take care of committee business.
What if I'm not on a committee? You are welcome to come to the Even Hotel (our new meeting place) and socialize. If you're planning to come and eat lunch, the same meeting registration process pertains. You must register by noon on the Tuesday prior to that week's meeting - see the Rotary online calendar for registration links. If you're currently not a member of a committee and are interested in joining one, let Amber or one of the club's board members know, and they'll try and find a committee that fits your interests.

At the March 10 noon meeting, it was announced that the leadership of the three Rotary Clubs in Rochester, in tandem with the leadership of Cradle2Career, all agree that this is a good time for Rotary to re-engage with Cradle2Career. Cradle2Career is at a point where they need some additional community support and Rotary has the skills and people power to meet those needs! Throughout this year, there will be opportunities for Rotary to receive more information about the needs of kids, prenatal to young adult ("cradle 2 career"), in our community, how Cradle2Career is working with community partners to meet those needs, and ways in which Rotary can assist.
An immediate need that Rotary recently met was work to collate the "Kindergarten Ready!" cards. A group of volunteers representing all three Rotary Clubs met at the United Way Building the evening of March 15. Led by Claudia Tabini, interim director of Cradle2Career, these 10 volunteers collated 10 cards that had originally not been printed, in with the other cards, to make full sets. The Kindergarten Ready! cards are in English, Spanish, Somali, and Arabic. In two hours time, 500 sets of cards were completed! These cards will be given to parents of preschool-aged children to promote meaningful parent-child interaction through fun and age-appropriate activities.

The cards are purchased at face value, but the club receives 5% back from Apollo Liquor and Kwik Trip and 4% back from Menards. The club receives an additional 5% on purchases at Kwik Trip, other than gas, inside the store.
