The first Thursday of the month has been designated by The Rotary Club of Rochester as a time for TRCR committee meetings to convene.
So, what happens from 11:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. the first Thursday of the month? To encourage members to participate in club committees, the first Thursday of the month has been designated as a time when members of club committees can meet during the club's originally scheduled meeting time. This saves members from trying to find another time outside of the club's regular weekly meeting time to take care of committee business.
What if I'm not on a committee? You are welcome to come to the Even Hotel (our new meeting place) and socialize. If you're planning to come and eat lunch, the same meeting registration process pertains. You must register by noon on the Tuesday prior to that week's meeting - see the Rotary online calendar for registration links. If you're currently not a member of a committee and are interested in joining one, let Amber or one of the club's board members know, and they'll try and find a committee that fits your interests.
The three Rotary Clubs in Rochester have given $19,100 in grants to area youth-related organizations from the proceeds of the 2021 Rotary Holiday Classic basketball tournament held December 28-29 at the Mayo Civic Center. For more than 30 years, the Holiday Classic has been a labor of love for Rochester Rotarians allowing members to fulfill their motto of “Service Above Self” by generating more than $1,000,000 in grants for area youth-related organizations. This is a credit to the Classic's sponsors and advertisers, participating teams, and the fans who enjoy seeing great high school basketball!
Youth-related non-profits made grant requests of $84,800 to the Rotary Clubs. Awards were given to the following:

Mark your calendars for the 2022 Rotary Holiday Classic which will be held December 29-30 at the Mayo Civic Center and will involve 12 boys and 12 girls high school teams from Southeastern Minnesota and beyond.
It was a most unusual type of madness in March with it all coming down to two Rotarians in it to win it all for one of their favorite non-profits. Chris Colby chose North Carolina to win, and Jeanine Gangeness chose Kansas. In a thrilling come from behind win, Kansas (and Jeanine) win it all! Stay tuned to find out which non-profit will be the winner as Jeanine decides where to donate the Rotary Bracket Challenge winners. Thanks to everyone who played!
The Rochester Rotary Clubs are sponsoring a male foreign exchange student, Ruben, from Spain to attend Mayo High School during the 2022-23 school year. During the school year, three families within the same high school attendance area (or able to provide transport if outside the area) are needed to host the student from mid-August – early June (approximately August-November, December-March, March-June). The exchange student does not require their own room, as they can share a room with a host sibling of the same gender as long as they have their own bed. A proper place to study is also needed and they are required to attend school. The cards are purchased at face value, but the club receives 5% back from Apollo Liquor and Kwik Trip and 4% back from Menards. The club receives an additional 5% on purchases at Kwik Trip, other than gas, inside the store.
