Please join our TRCR’s White Oaks Park Clean-up crew as Rotarians and friends of Rotary every third Wednesday of each month from May-October! The small, but enthusiastically efficient team meets around 6:00 p.m. at White Oaks Park (4597 55th St. NW, Rochester). Enjoy fun and fellowship while making the Park cleaner to serve the many groups who come to stroll, play in the playground, baseball field, and visit local neighbors. Everyone who comes to help clean has different reasons for why they participate in this volunteer activity. Our sergeant-at-arms, John Woodruff, is often guiding us on how to ‘deep clean’ the rougher areas, too! For one devoted, 7-year old volunteer, Myles Carlson, son of Phet Saysomphou, friend of Rotary, he does it because, “I help others by cleaning the earth.” He is one child, serving one hour, collecting one grocery bag of garbage each month, feeling rewarded in his service and making a bigger impact than he may even realize. Whatever reasons you may find to participate, imagine the greater impact an added few more of us could make each month, together.
Join your fellow Rotarians at the July 22 Rotary Club of Rochester midday meeting for lunch, fellowship, and our program. Rotarians will meet in-person at the Rochester Golf and Country Club beginning at 11:30 a.m. The meeting will also be available via Zoom. Look for an email sent to all members on Monday, July 19, which included meeting details and a link to the Zoom meeting.
The program will be presented by Jim Hunt, past District 5960 Governor, who will provide us with an update on the District's Fast for Hope Initiative in Nicaragua. The Fast for Hope initiative is the only District wide project undertaken by Rotary District 5960. It is entirely supported by volunteer contributions from District clubs and their members. The presentation will cover what is Fast for Hope, what we have learned, and the status of the Nicaragua initiative.
A few members of TRCR were brainstorming ideas for their small groups and came up with the idea of inviting all TRCR Rotarians, and their friends and family, to attend a Rochester Honkers baseball game on Thursday, July 29. The first pitch is at 6:35 p.m.
Through the Honkers fundraising initiative, Rotary members have an opportunity to purchase a special ticket package for the July 29th Honkers home game against the Bismarck Larks. For only $10, the special Rotary ticket package includes a reserved bleacher ticket and a voucher for a hot dog and a pop. The best part? For each ticket package sold, $5 will go directly back to our club!
To register, simply fill out the form and indicate how many tickets you would like to purchase. A Honkers ticket representative will contact you directly to collect payment and have your tickets set aside for pickup at will call the night of the game.
As we enjoy another beautiful Minnesota summer, the December holiday season is far from the minds of many - with one exception - Rotarians who work year-round behind the scenes for the Rotary Holiday Classic!
The success of the Holiday Classic is based on many components - high school basketball players and their coaches, fans in the stands who pay to watch 30 teams play multiple games, favorable winter weather, Rotary volunteers, and last but not least, the Classic's advertisers and sponsors. Without all of these components, the Classic wouldn't exist, but it's our advertisers and sponsors who commit thousands of dollars in funding that underwrite the expenses that an event such as the Classic generate.
We are fortunate to have Mayo Clinic Orthopedics and Sports Medicine as our "presented by" sponsor for December's Classic. This team of specialists focus not only on sports-related injuries but offer a wealth of information that is applicable to most everyone. Information for sponsorships and program advertisements are available on the Holiday Classic website. The Rotary Clubs of Rochester have given more than $1 million over 30 years to youth-related non-profit organizations in the area. The informal Rotary After Hours which meets the first Thursday of the month will resume on August 5. We will meet near the Rochester Public Library at the corner of 2nd Street and 1st Avenue SW at 5:30 p.m. and walk over to enjoy Thursdays Downtown. Free parking is available at the Civic Center ramp.
And the “Third Thursdays" small group meetings will continue as your individual groups have determined. Your “convener” will send you an invite. We continue to plan for a change to the small groups in September.

A $100 Kwik Trip card immediately creates $5 for the club and any in-store purchases creates another 5% donation.If you would like to purchase Scrip cards, send an email to romnrotary@gmail.com with how many and what denomination you'd like. In additional to Kwik Trip, Scrip cards are also available to Apollo Liquor and Menards. The cards are purchased at face value, but the club receives 5% back from Apollo Liquor and Kwik Trip and 4% back from Menards. The club receives an additional 5% on purchases at Kwik Trip, other than gas, inside the store.
