Chris Colby announced at the July 28th meeting that the Rotary Club of Rochester Community Foundation, based upon the recommendation of its Community Grant Selection Committee, approved the selection of a local organization to award the $10,000 community impact grant for 2022.
The Selection Committee used six question criteria with a five-point scale rating system to help us identify the submissions that best aligned with our Club’s goals for the grant, as follows:
1. Community Impact -- how much does the application benefit the Rochester community?
2. How well does the application promote health, education, or self-development in the community?
3. Long-term Impact -- how much of a long-term community impact will this application have?
4. What is the level of service involvement potential for Rotarians?
5. How much does the application foster goodwill?
6. How much will the application improve the quality of lives?
While there were many great submissions, the selection Committee unanimously agreed on a submission that we all felt would have a great and long-lasting impact in the community. Thus, the TRCR Foundation is pleased to announce that it has approved an Impact Grant of $10,000 be awarded to the Reading Center of Rochester to help fund the establishment of a new, critical reading club for underserved & struggling readers with their mothers, in partnership with the Rochester Jeremiah Program.

“The passport program is a 5960 brainchild. That’s right, we are extra special. With the idea of breaking down silos and recognizing that we are all in this together, the passport program rewards each member that gets out and visits other clubs. This does not just include attending another clubs meeting but also their service projects, their social events, fundraisers, and anything else you can imagine. You can pick up your physical passport at your club, at the club you are visiting or at the district. Yes, if your club runs out, we can get you more. When you visit another club, you get them to stamp your passport. If they forgot their stamp at the event, have them initial your passport. We are all trustworthy individuals. At the end of the year, each member will receive one raffle ticket for each stamp/initial in the passport. The raffle is for a limited-edition print by Darren Jones, Jennifer Jones’ brother. Very cool. “

"Thank you so much for the honor of being your Club President in 2021-2022. Leading during a pandemic has certainly been a challenge, but I am so proud of the work we’ve accomplished together this year. I would like to highlight a few:
We are getting back to a new normal. Amber was hired a year ago. We’re in person, and we’ve made hybrid an ongoing option to give club members the most flexibility. Programs that were on hiatus are back, often with important new improvements that emphasize safety and flexibility. Youth exchange is a great example of this.
At Tuesday’s District Awards, we were recognized for hosting Research Trainees as our Signature Project. This new program modeled after Youth Exchange has been a huge success.
I’m very proud of the strategic plan and resulting action plans. We used conversations, surveys, and the Rotary District process to develop the plan. You told us what was important to you, and we developed a set of plans to take concrete actions to develop and grow as a club. Adding Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, Membership, and Measurement positions to the board are all important steps in holding ourselves accountable to having an impact in the community. I believe the intentionality of the club will make sure we are spending time on the most important initiatives. Tuesday our club was recognized at the District’s Awards Ceremony for our work around strategic planning. We received a 2nd place award.
A highlight of the year for me personally was traveling to the Rotary International Convention in Houston earlier this month and having the opportunity to present a break-out session with Elaine Case and Jerome Ferson about the 3 Rochester Rotary Clubs starting Cradle to Career. Yesterday we met with another club who wanted more information about our efforts.
I would like to recognize outgoing board members Fred Suhler, Bob Mueller, and Chris Colby. Each brought unique perspectives to the board and represented you well. As Past-President, Chris was my go-to person as Amber and I were both learning the ropes.
As I hand over the gavel to Allie Good, I know the club is in good hands. I’m excited for her year as the action plans get executed and the mentorship program starts."
As a member of the Rotary Club of Rochester, there are three "To Do List" items to sign-up for the second and fourth Thursday meeting from now until the end of the year.

2. Sign-up to give a reflection
