Rotary Midday Meeting - 7.16.2020
Join us via Zoom this Thursday, July 16, 12 - 1 pm for our Rotary Midday Meeting. Our program will be "Invasive Aquatic Species" presented by Meg Duhr, Associate Director at Minnesota Aquatic Species Invasive Research Center, University Minnesota. The presentation will touch on the research efforts at the University of Minnesota to combat the spread of Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS) in the state's lakes and rivers, exemplifying the value in having a well supported public research institution in Minnesota.

Volunteers are still needed to lead the Four Way Test and to share a Reflection. If you are available and willing, please sign up here.

An invitation will be sent to those on The Rotary Club of Rochester's email distribution list. If you do not receive an invitation but would like to attend, please contact the Rotary office at romnrotary@gmail.com prior to 10 am on Thursday.

Need a Mask, Just Ask!

Afer receiving 4,000 homemade masks for first responders and other front line workers, the City of Rochester is ready to distribute the remaining face coverings to individuals in need.

According to Mayor Kim Norton, the “Need a Mask, Just Ask!” project will help ensure that Rochester residents are able to follow local rules and regulations requiring individuals to wear masks in public.

“Community members were kind enough to make and donate enough masks to support our city teammates and first responders, and others. We have over 2,000 masks yet to distribute,” says Norton. “We know that wearing these will help slow the spread of COVID-19 and we want to offer those that do not have access to a mask an opportunity to pick one up while supplies last.”

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in Rotary Youth Exchange
A training document focused on supporting LGBTQ+ exchange students is now available to all Rotary Youth Exchange leaders. It discusses the primary goals of Rotary Youth Exchange.

The Rotary International Board of Directors reaffirmed that “Rotary values diversity and celebrates the contributions of people of all backgrounds, regardless of their age, ethnicity, race, color, abilities, religion, socioeconomic status, culture, sex, sexual orientation, and gender identity.”

We strive to “cultivate a diverse, equitable, and inclusive culture in which people from underrepresented groups have greater opportunities to participate” in Rotary Youth Exchange.

Volunteer Needed for Holiday Classic Sponsor/Advertiser Team
A Rotarian from The Rotary Club of Rochester is needed to assist Holiday Classic Sponsor/Advertiser Chair Elaine Case. The role will assist in recruiting other TRCR Rotarians to follow up with 2020 Classic sponsors and advertisers and make a few contacts him/herself. Not a difficult role, just one part of a whole team. Please contact the Rotary office if you are interested/willing.
Save the Date - Rotary Golf Outing 2020
Mark your calendars for Wednesday, September 16, 12-1 pm, and save the date for our 2020 Rotary Golf Outing. It's a fun, event for Rotarians and friends of Rotary. If you aren't a golfer, join us for lunch, a short meeting, and a program. If you enjoy golf, even on the rare occasion, register with your own team or as a single to be grouped with other individuals. The event will take place unless another StayHomeMN order goes into effect for that time.
SCRIP Available for Purchase
Scrip cards to Apollo Liquor, Kwik Trip, and Menards are still available for purchase to support The Rotary Club of Rochester. Remember, you purchase and spend the cards at face value, and the club receives 5% back from Apollo Liquor and Kwik Trip, and 4% back from Menards. The club gets an additional 5% on purchases at Kwik Trip, other than gas, inside the store.

If you would like to make a scrip purchase, please email the Rotary office with your request. Apollo is sold in $10 increments, and no change is given in store. Kwik Trip may be purchased in increments of $5 up to $25, increments of $25 up to $100, and then $200, $250, and $500. Credit remains on the card until the full value is spent. Menards cards may be purchased in any denomination between $10 and $2000 with the credit remaining on the card, as well. Apollo and Kwik Trip cards will be delivered within a few days, and Menards cards may take up to two weeks. Scrip cards make especially great gifts for celebrations, including birthdays and graduations!

Separate from the Scrip program but another way to support Rotary is Amazon Smile. If you are already shopping on Amazon, please consider shopping Amazon Smile instead. Same items are available, but if you designate The Rotary Club of Rochester Foundation as your organization of choice, Amazon donates a portion of your purchase to RCRF. Thank you for your support!
