The annual Quarry Hill Fall Festival is Saturday, September 6,from 11:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., and members of The Rotary Club of Rochester will once again be serving food for families attending the festival. There are three shifts available from which to choose to volunteer. There is parking available near the main lot at Quarry Hill for volunteers. Make sure you should allow enough time to park and get checked in before your shift as the food tent is always busy!
For those unfamiliar with the Fall Festival, it is a carnival-style outdoor event at Quarry Hill Park and Nature Center. Activities include nature games, eco-friendly crafts, candle rolling, cave tours, canoeing, rock climbing, pumpkin decorating, and more quintessentially Quarry Hill activities. Hot dogs, popcorn and beverages are available (this is where you, as a Rotarian, are needed). All proceeds from the event benefit the Friends of Quarry Hill Nature Center and are used to help keep the nature center admission free year-round and provide educational programs for youth, families and adults.
We're down to our last opportunity to volunteer to help maintain our club's adopted park - White Oaks Park. All Rotary Club of Rochester members, friends, and family are encouraged to stop by on the third Wednesday of the month on October 15 at 5:00 pm (note the earlier start time). The Rotary Club of Rochester adopted White Oaks Park several years ago and each Spring, Summer, and Fall, members and friends meet to ensure the park is clean and inviting for members of the community. Clean-up takes less than an hour.Care to join? Bring a bucket or garbage bag, gloves, and work shoes as that's all that's needed for the clean-up.

Congratulations to former TRCR member Jamie Flores-Gouyonnet and Brenna Sharp who recently became engaged. Jaime was part of the partnership with the Mexico Rotary District where Rochester Rotary hosted him for a year. Both Jaime and Brenna were part of the Rotary mentoring program last year, and Jaime was a member of our club. They are both in Boston where Jaime has started his medical residency.
Greg Hoskinson was born in Iowa, but his family moved to Colorado when he was eleven years old. Except for military duty during Vietnam and a four-year foray to Connecticut for career advancement, he lived in Colorado until retiring last December. He relocated to Rochester this June. His career began in investment banking in 1975 and switched to mortgage banking in 1992. He owned and operated Sterling Mortgage & Investments, Ltd., until the end of 2024. In his elevator speech he claims to be the only mortgage broker in America to have previously been vice presidents of both EF Hutton and Thomson Reuters.
Greg has been a Rotarian for more than 21 years and has served in many positions. Because he is passionate about young adults, he has been actively involved with RYLA, serving as a senior counselor for more than 10 years, and chairing or assistant-chairing several week-long camps. He also hosted several Group Study Exchanges. He was president of Denver Southeast Rotary in 2019-2020, successfully bringing the club and himself into the COVID/Zoom world. For four years he served as chair of District 5450’s Interact and Rotaract Committee. In addition to his Rotary service, he also served his church by creating and running its weekly Senior High Forum for nearly 20 years. Students discussed, debated and learned the skills to integrate their faith into their daily life.
Greg has been married to his wife, Jane, for nearly 45 years. They have two grown children, Andrew and Elizabeth, and three grandchildren, 14. 12 and 8 years old. In retirement he hopes to continue serving others through Rotary, and to continue his hobbies of collecting and “consuming” both rare and fine books and wines.

Ashok was busy taking pictures with members of The Rotary Club of Rochester who attended the Tee It Up For The Troops event held at Willow Creek on August 13. The event combined a golf tournament with an inspiring patriotic ceremony and tribute to our military. After the morning ceremonies, Rotarians held a short meeting and enjoyed box lunches and fellowship.
Worldwide, 250 million children have no access to education, and more than 775 million people over the age of 15 are illiterate; meaning roughly 17 percent of the global adult population struggles with illiteracy. Rotarians support educational projects that provide technology, teacher training, vocational training teams, student meal programs, and low-cost textbooks to communities. Our goal is to strengthen the capacity of communities to support basic education and literacy, reduce gender disparity in education, and increase adult literacy.
