Mayor Kim Norton will read the World Polio Day proclamation at the October 17th City Council meeting to be held at 7 pm. Rotarians are encouraged to attend this meeting.

Look for the Rochester City Hall dome lights to be illuminated in red/yellow on the evening of October 23 in recognition of World Polio Day on October 24th.
Monday, October 24th Rotary International World Polio Day
Rotary members have been at the center of the worldwide effort to eradicate polio for more than three decades. Rotary launched PolioPlus in 1985 and helped found the Global Polio Eradication Initiative (GPEI) in 1988, when there were an estimated 350,000 polio cases across more than 125 countries in one year. Since then, cases have plummeted more than 99.9%, sparing more than 20 million people from paralysis. Rotary has helped immunize nearly 3 billion children against polio, contributed more than US$2.6 billion to global polio eradication efforts, and helped secure more than US$10 billion from donor governments.

Note: STRIVE begins the 2nd week of October – 11th, 12th, and 13th.
STRIVE is a Rochester Rotary Clubs sponsored program for seniors who have faced some academic challenges but want to make the most of their last year of high school. Our number one goal is to help them graduate from high school and see the opportunities out there for post-secondary education through our mentoring.
We need a minimum of 48 mentors for this program with twelve (12) at each school.
