Rotarians will meet this Thursday, 11:30 am - 1:00 pm in Suite 101 at Mayo Civic Center. This will serve as the 2019-2020 Annual Meeting of The Rotary Club of Rochester. The names of nominated, incoming 2020-2021 TRCR Board Directors will be announced and voted upon viva voce. One fourth of the membership shall constitute a quorum.

The Rotary Club of Rochester meeting format will change slightly in February, 2020. Instead of Service First Thursday on the first Thursday of each month, Rotarians and friends of Rotary are invited to join us between 5:30 - 7:00 pm in The Sticks (a small room off the main dining room) at Twigs Tavern and Grille. This will be an opportunity to socialize, network, and introduce guests to Rotary. Attendees are encouraged to order beverages and food from the Twigs menu and will pay their bills individually. There will be an 18% gratuity automatically added to checks. Thank you to Rotarian Kristine Ihrke and Twigs for their hospitality hosting us in this location.
Rochester youth and education-related nonprofits are encouraged to submit an application by January 31 to be considered for a Rotary Community Grant. During the past 31 years, the Rotary clubs of Rochester have provided over $981,335 in grants and scholarships from the net proceeds of the Rotary Holiday Classic basketball showcase. Rotary and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation announced on 22 January that their long-term fundraising partnership, which generates up to $150 million annually for polio eradication, will continue. Under the agreement, Rotary is committed to raising $50 million a year over the next three years, and each dollar will be matched with an additional two dollars by the Gates Foundation.
In a video address at the 2020 Rotary International Assembly in San Diego, California, USA, Bill Gates told incoming district governors that the partnership with Rotary needs to continue.
“The Gates Foundation’s longstanding partnership with Rotary has been vital to fighting polio,” Gates said. “That’s why we’re extending our funding match, so every dollar that Rotary raises is met with two more.”
