Join us via Zoom this Thursday, August 27, 12 - 1 pm for our Rotary Midday Meeting. Our program will be "LIFE Program at RCTC" presented by Stephen Troutman, Futurist, Volunteer, and LIFE Advisory Board Member. Rochester Community and Technical College’s Learning Is ForEver (LIFE) Program began in 1993 as an initiative of Mayo Clinic and its retirees. The LIFE mission states:  “As part of the RCTC outreach effort, LIFE provides stimulating educational programs and encourages Social and personal growth for life-long learners in our growing and diverse community. This is accomplished through a variety of affordable courses including lectures, discussion groups, day trips, and other learning opportunities in an accessible setting.” Currently, ALL classes are being offered using Zoom. There are 85 classes offered this fall at LIFE.

August is Rotary Membership Month. Only through the dedication of members, who live out the “Service Above Self” motto, are we able to work together to make a positive impact both in our community and our world. It our pleasure to announce to you that the African region has just been certified wild poliovirus-free.

Rotary members have played an invaluable role in the effort to rid the African region of wild polio. We should be proud of all the hard work that we’ve done to eliminate the wild poliovirus throughout Africa and in nearly every country in the world. 

This progress is the result of a decades-long effort across the 47 countries of the African region. It has involved millions of health workers traveling by foot, boat, bike and bus, innovative strategies to vaccinate children amid conflict and insecurity, and a huge disease surveillance network to test cases of paralysis and check sewage for the virus. 

Scrip cards to Apollo Liquor, Kwik Trip, and Menards are still available for purchase to support The Rotary Club of Rochester. Remember, you purchase and spend the cards at face value, and the club receives 5% back from Apollo Liquor and Kwik Trip, and 4% back from Menards. The club gets an additional 5% on purchases at Kwik Trip, other than gas, inside the store. 

 

If you would like to make a scrip purchase, please email the Rotary office with your request. Apollo is sold in $10 increments, and no change is given in store. Kwik Trip may be purchased in increments of $5 up to $25, increments of $25 up to $100, and then $200, $250, and $500. Credit remains on the card until the full value is spent. Menards cards may be purchased in any denomination between $10 and $2000 with the credit remaining on the card, as well. Apollo and Kwik Trip cards will be delivered within a few days, and Menards cards may take up to two weeks. Scrip cards make especially great gifts for celebrations, including birthdays and graduations!
