HAL DAUB: 4th generation Nebraskan, Married with three children and five grandchildren, 4-term US Congressman, 2-term Mayor, Proud Member of Omaha Downtown Rotary, Eagle Scout, NU Board of Regents, and Chairman of the Social Security Advisory Board nominated by President George W. Bush and confirmed by the US Senate.
Hal graduated from Omaha, Nebraska Benson High School in 1959, there was President of the Student Council, Valedictorian of his graduating class of 366 students, Drum Major of the Marching Band, National Forensic League Degree of Distinction, Deputy Commander of the ROTC detachment, World-Herald Scholar; received his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri in 1963, there was President of Student Government, inducted into Thurtene Junior Honorary, Omicron Delta Kappa, and Alpha Kappa Psi Business Fraternity, active in his Greek letter social fraternity Kappa Sigma; earned his law degree from University of Nebraska in 1966, there serving as the Regional Vice President for the Student Law Association of the American Bar Association and selected s the Most Outstanding Law Student in the Nation by his Law School Fraternity, Delta Theta Phi; and served as a Captain, U.S. Army Infantry, Platoon Leader and Company Commander with the Second United States Infantry Division, Korea, from 1966-1968, after finishing First in his Infantry Basic Training Class at Ft. Benning Georgia.
Hal practiced law in Omaha with the firm of Fitzgerald, Brown, Leahy, McGill & Strom from 1968 to 1971; was Vice-President and General Counsel with Standard Chemical Manufacturing Company from 1971 to 1981; elected to and served four-terms in the United States House of Representatives working for Nebraskans as a member of the most powerful and influential committee of the Congress, the Ways and Means Committee from 1981 to 1989; campaigned for the U. S. Senate on two occasions; was a principal and partner in the accounting firm of Deloitte & Touche from 1989 to 1995; served as the twice-elected Mayor of the City of Omaha from 1995 until 2001; was elected to the Boards of the Nebraska League of Municipalities, the U.S. Conference of Mayors and the National League of Cities, and was President of the National Republican Mayors and Local Officials Association for six years; was elected to be a Delegate to the last eleven Republican National Conventions, served as Vice-Chairman of the Metropolitan Entertainment and Convention Authority Board, was Chairman of Community Health Charities of America National Board, National Committeeman for the Nebraska Republican Party, was President and CEO of the American Health Care Association, and is was a Partner and is now retired Senior Counsel with Husch Blackwell law firm. Appointed by President G.H.W. Bush to the National Advisory Commission on the Public Service in 1990 and nominated by President George W. Bush, to serve a six-year term on the permanent statutory Social Security Advisory Board and as a result of confirmation by the U.S. Senate on January 25, 2002 and at the direction of the President, on February 5, 2002, serve as its Chair for the next four years. Hal was a delegate to the 2006 White House Conference on Aging. He served as a publicly elected member of the University of Nebraska Board of Regents.
Recently, Okley Gibbs introduced transferring Rotarian Vanessa Clark from Painesville, Ohio. The Very Rev. Vanessa E. B. Clark has served Trinity Episcopal Cathedral as Dean and Rector since 2021, leading the congregation in radical welcome of all persons in worship, service, and community engagement. She initiated direct support of Central High School staff and students. Dean Clark is an active member of the Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance in Omaha. Under her leadership, Trinity Episcopal Cathedral has increased their outreach to the LGBTQ+ community and celebrated our many parishioners in the community, including the annual Pride Mass.
She earned a Master of Divinity from Bexley Hall Seminary and was ordained in the Diocese of Southern Ohio. In 2009 she began ministry at St. James Episcopal Church in Painesville, Ohio. Leading the parish from service into advocacy and community change. She served as Ecumenical and Interfaith Officer for the Diocese of Ohio and Vice President of the Ohio Council of Churches. Dean Clark’s previous involvement as a board member of Lake County LGBTQ+ Allies and member of the Painesville Rotary Club has made her passionate about social justice and “service above self.” In Painesville Rotary Club she served as the Program Coordinator and helped start a monthly community meal cooked and served by the Club.
Prior to her work in The Episcopal Church, Dean Clark was a professional Stage Manager. She and her husband, author Mark Clark, have two children and happily reside in Omaha.

President Larry Guenther led Downtown Rotarians in thanking Immediate Past President Sean Connolly for his service as President during Rotary year 2022-2023. President Larry presents Sean with the shiny Rotary Presidential plaque. Thank you, President Sean!
As perfectly forecasted by our friendly WOWT TV by Jim McKernan, the pool party was beyond amazing. We had the perfect summer weather. Everyone in attendance had a grand time. Steve and Pat McCollister were super party hosts. They are the perfect event planners, providing great food and great company. Rotarians had a great time and are grateful to Pat and Steve McCollister. Below is the perfect weather pool party forecast by Rusty Lord, specially made for the Rotary Club of Omaha Pool Party. R. Gordon R. McInally is president of Rotary International. He was educated at the Royal High School in Edinburgh and at the University of Dundee, where he earned his graduate degree in dental surgery. He operated his own dental practice in Edinburgh until 2016. Gordon was chair of the East of Scotland branch of the British Paedodontic Society and has held various academic positions. He has also served as a presbytery elder, chair of the Queensferry parish congregational board, and commissioner to the general assembly of the Church of Scotland. The Omaha Downtown Rotary partners with Stephens Center in serving hot meals to its residents.
