Past President's Pen
I had the pleasure of pinch-hitting for Camille as your president this week.  We welcomed club member Dr. Jian Zou (AKA Dr. J.Z.) and his colleague, Dr. Peter Steyger, who are affilliated with the Translational Hearing Center in the Department of Biomedical Sciences, Creighton University, chaired by Dr. Zou.  Dr. J.Z., himself, has published more than 100 research articles with high impacts.

As a 14-month old, Dr. Steyger was afflicted with bacterial meninghitis.  It a very serious condition that can result in death, but in Dr. Steyger's case, caused him to have sever hearing loss.  As a 3-year old, he attended the University of Manchester, England, to learn how to listen and speak, because hearing loss also affects one's speech.

Dr. Steyger received his PhD from at the Keele University, England.  Dr. Steyger joined the Oregon Hearing Research Center in 1997 and rose through the ranks.  In June this year, he moved to the Creighton University School of Medicine to become the inaugural director of the Translational Hearing Center.  He has published more than 70 original research articles and topic reviews.  His work has led to discoveries of certain treatment drugs that cause hearing loss in in inordinate frequency of patients.  We learned that the Transactional Hearing Loss Center, here in Omaha, is the only one in the U.S. that also includes research!

We also welcomed our newest member, Ross Ferrarini to our club and presented him with his red badge.  He is in the investments field.  Please take a moment and get to know him.  Welcome!

I suspect Camille will be back next week.  It's been a pleasure!
