October 24 is World Polio Day
Rotary International is fervently gearing up for the observance of World Polio Day on October 24, a significant moment prompting collective determination to uproot polio from the global landscape. With only two countries still grappling with endemic polio, we have made staggering strides, achieving a remarkable 99.99% reduction in cases since 1988.

Poliomyelitis, commonly known as the poliovirus, predominantly targets children below the age of 5, causing extensive ramifications for their health. This highly contagious disease is transmitted from person to person. Its impact on the nervous system can lead to paralysis, rendering its victims vulnerable to lifelong challenges.

While a cure for polio remains elusive, we have made significant strides through the widespread administration of a safe and efficacious vaccine. Rotary, in close collaboration with our esteemed partners, has successfully immunized over 2.5 billion children worldwide, reinforcing our unwavering commitment to the global eradication of this perilous disease. As we commemorate World Polio Day, let us unite in our resolve to eliminate polio and create a safer, healthier world for generations to come.

Thank you to all Rotarians who have donated to The Rotary Foundation towards polio eradication. Donations to Polio Plus count toward the Paul Harris Fellowship. DONATE NOW, CLICK HERE.
