James Wolfe

United States Coast Guard

Nov 19, 2025
James Wolfe serves in the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, where he supports public education, marine safety, and community outreach. He is a veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard, having served six years during the Vietnam era, where he operated LORAN stations, radio beacons, and lighthouses—critical components of maritime navigation and safety.

With more than two decades as an educator and technology innovator, James has made a lasting impact on both education and industry. In 1984, he led a team at Metro Community College to make ham radio contact with NASA’s STS-9 Space Shuttle mission. That same year, he developed the Laser Clearance Car for Union Pacific Railroad, which was featured in the March 1984 issue of National Geographic.

A runner-up in Nebraska’s Teacher in Space program and a longtime supporter of SkillsUSA, James continues to lead STEM education initiatives involving drone technology, robotics, and career development. His work reflects a deep commitment to innovation, civic service, and empowering the next generation.
