Oct 04, 2018
SUBURBAN ROTARY would like to personally invite you and members of your clubs to join us for a Metro Luncheon on October 4th to hear from Bill Moos, the Director of Athletics at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln. We will meet at Anthony’s Steakhouse, one block South of 72nd and I-80 in Omaha, on 10.04.2018 from 11:30 AM – 1:00 PM. A plated lunch will be served and is included in the $25 admission cost. |

General Crook House – Rotarian Host: Dianne Desler The Museum is the authentically restored home of Civil War and National Indian Wars hero, General George Crook, and is on the National Register of Historic Places. It was constructed in 1879 while General Crook served as the Commander of the Department of the Platte. General Crook is known for his supporting role in the landmark 1879 trial of Standing Bear v. Crook. The house was built in the Italianate style, which represented the grandeur of the military frontier. All furnishings are antiques from the 1880 Victorian period. From early November through the end of December, the museum celebrates 19th Century Holidays, complete with full holiday decorations. The Crook House Guild transforms every room in the house into captivating glimpses at Christmases past. Collections at this living history museum include decorative arts, costumes, arts and crafts and period furnishings.
School of Construction Sciences – Rotarian Host: Rose Opbroek We will tour the new buildings that house construction programs that include Apprenticeship Programs, Architectural Design Technology, Civil Engineering Technology, Construction & Building Sciences, Electrical Technology, HVAC & Refrigeration, and Plumbing. MCC is currently one of the fastest growing postsecondary institutions in Nebraska. Three new buildings, the Construction Education Center, Center for Advanced and Emerging Technologies and the Career and Academic Skills Center, are now open on the Fort Omaha Campus. The new MCC North Express center will open soon at the Highlander Accelerator project near 30th and Parker streets and offer a mix of continuing education, workforce training and outreach services. Planning has started on the Industrial Training Center renovation and for a new facility for the Automotive Technology program. The addition and enhancement of instructional facilities are geared specifically to prepare students for success in college and the workforce in the four-county area for years to come.
Culinary Arts Institute: Rotarian Host: Kathy Estes The Institute for the Culinary Arts at Metropolitan Community College consists of two programs: Culinary Arts & Management and Hospitality & Restaurant Leadership. The hands-on experience takes place in a state-of-the-art, amazing facility. “We give our students passion. It is all about passion — passion to cook, passion to serve others and passion to make others smile. It is about sacrifice and commitment. It is about rewards, satisfaction and happy people. We provide the opportunity to work with people from all walks of life, no matter where you are or your stage of life. Our graduates can work anywhere in the world, in a variety of settings: hotels, restaurants, country clubs, cruise ships, military bases, commissaries, hospitals, assisted living facilities, catering, universities and manufacturing facilities.” Many of the degree options are accredited by the American Culinary Federation Accreditation Commission, and the ICA has been rated among the top culinary schools in the U.S. MCC has been an accredited institution since 1975. Tours start promptly at noon. At 12:45 all are asked to be at the Culinary Arts building for lunch – 12:45 to 1:30pm. Rotarians are asked to pay individually for the buffet lunch - $14 – cash, check or Fast Pass.
