We warmly invite you to join us for our upcoming regular club dinner meeting where we will host Radka Smejkalová, to present the life, genius and work of Gene Deitch, American Oscar winning illustrator, animator, comics artist, and film director who was based in Prague from the 1960s until his death in 2020. While a lot of people grew up watching Popeye and Tom & Jerry, just a handful knew the genius behind it.

Radka is an accomplished translator and journalist with a rich educational background in English and American literature, journalism, and mass communication from the Faculty of Arts at Charles University, Suffolk University, and Hogeschool Utrecht. Since 2017, she has dedicated herself to literary translation, with a focus on Flemish and Dutch literature, translating authors like Tom Lanoye, Ilja Leonard Pfeijffer, and Arthur Japin. Her translation of Stefan Hertmans' historical novel De Bekeerlinge (The Convert) earned her a nomination for the Josef Jungmann Prize in 2022.

We are looking forward to seeing you there!
