We had a great time honoring our scholarship winners last week. As they always do, Jim Ryan and the entire scholarship committee did an outstanding job with their selections this year! And it was great to catch up with past winners and find out how they have not been content to simply weather the storm this past academic year, but have been pressing forward to excel in spite of it! These students truly are an inspiration!
As a reminder, we’re back at the Martin Center again this Friday, and if you’re planning to attend, you’re sure to be inspired once again! This week it will be one of our very own who will be the source of that inspiration. Sid Smith is not only a Past President of this fine club... He’s not only a past Bob Billington Award recipient and Four Avenues of Service Award winner… He’s also a retired Captain in the United States Army and a veteran of Vietnam. This week, he will be sharing some of his memories of his service in Vietnam. I believe his words are “An Old Man’s Reflection on a Young Man’s Military Duty (50+ years later.)” Be there! …or risk facing the wrath of Sid Smith!!
Also – if you haven’t already, please RSVP to Sherry Coss ASAP if you’d like to attend the Installation Banquet at Richland Country Club (Sherry’s email is This year’s banquet will be held on Thursday, June 24 with cash bar starting at 6:00 and dinner and program beginning at 7:00. As a reminder, this banquet serves as our regular weekly meeting for that week, thus the cost of each member’s dinner is already covered by your regular quarterly dues. Of course, you are also welcome to bring a guest for a guest meal fee of $65. We do encourage all who are able to attend this event! Y’all – this has been one heck of a year! We all deserve to have a night of fun together after what we’ve been through don’t we?! …but be aware that attendance is capped at 65, so get your RSVP in now to avoid missing out on all the fun!

2020 Rotary Golf Classic - A Success!

2020 Rotary Golf Classic

Declared a Success!

On September 21, 124 golfers gathered on a beautiful sun splashed day at the Brentwood Country Club to compete in the 4th annual Rotary Golf Classic. Assisted by 17 Rotary Club members working the event under the leadership of Suzie Lindsey, everyone had a fun day and the tournament was a financial success for the club’s foundation. For the 3rd year, LBMC was our presenting Sponsor and their contribution makes the tournament work, they’ve been a great partner for us.

In a year with many unknowns, the club members were able to sell 176 sponsorships which totaled in excess of $ 115,000. After expenses for the tournament, the BRCCF saw a net profit of $ 82,000 which will be used to fund Grants to local and other organizations around the world. Our Funding Partners this year, Graceworks Ministries, Saddle Up!, and BrightStone will each receive a generous donation for their ongoing, good work in our community.

With Michael Kaplan leading his Sales Team with personal sales of $ 10,550 (14 Sponsors), the Kaplan Team set a new Team Sales record of $ 18,330! Congratulations to Michael and his team for a sensational effort. Jennifer Bourne’s team finished 2nd, but also eclipsed the prior team sales record with sales of $ 12,700 – great job Bourne Team!!

We look forward to next year with new ideas and plans knowing that this event has yet to reach it true potential as a fund raiser for our club. Come be a part next year and join the fun!
