Dear Club Member,
Chef Pasha did not disappoint at our Wednesday noon meeting. He delighted our palates with a salad bar, petite filet mignon, trout, baked potato, green beans and delicious mushroom cabernet gravy. The grand finale was a scrum delicious apple pie!
We were honored with a visit from Past President Dave Wells from the Ellsworth Noon time Club. Dave shared that 126 wheelchairs have been delivered to Belize. These chairs will go to 9 clubs to be distributed appropriately, Belize City receiving 44 chairs and smaller cities receiving 5 chairs each.
Annette announced the Pack a Bag for Belize Project and has since sent this notice of the project:
Pack a Bag for Belize
Mission - Rotary Club of Ellsworth and Rotary Club of Bar Harbor are sending a team to Belize in March 2016. The purpose of the mission is to distribute 126 wheelchairs to those in need of mobility. With the help of local clubs in Belize, we will distribute wheelchairs in Belize City, San Ignacio, Belmopan, and outlying areas over three full days. This mission is a multi-national humanitarian initiative with support from 10 Rotary Clubs, representing 4 Rotary Districts.
Need and Impact - The World Health Organization has identified wheelchairs as one of the most effective tools for assisting people with disabilities to become more productive members of their communities and that each wheelchair improves the lives of at least 10 people. It is estimated that more than 100 million people throughout the world are in need of a wheelchair but cannot afford one. A wheelchair is their only hope for mobility and independence. Roughly 3% of the population in developing countries is physically disabled and unable to afford a wheelchair. The majority of these people live in moderate or extreme poverty.
Pack a Bag for Belize - Another way to make a difference is by donating backpacks, pencils, school items, and deflated soccer balls to local school children in Belize. If you would like to help Pack a Bag for Belize, please make a cash donation or donate your items by February 23, 2016.
