District Governor: Find Your Inner Rotarian
New District Governor Stephen Johnson was the guest speaker at our July 10 meeting. Following are excerpts from his introductory message posted on the Disrict 7790 website.
The theme for Rotary International for the 2013-2014 year is “Engage Rotary, Change Lives.” Rotary International President Ron Burton has challenged us all to recognize the energy and power for service to others that can be harnessed when we work within the framework of our Rotary family to help to change lives within our local and international communities. The Rotary family proves the axiom “many hands make light work” in so many service activities, in so many places, and in so many ways. The challenge for each Rotarian during this Rotary year will be to identify situations in need of support and to then imagine how that support can be delivered by engaging the clubs, the district, Rotary International or The Rotary Foundation in service provision.
I encourage my fellow Rotarian district members to get to know your district, to learn of the many wonderful activities our clubs are engaged in, to seek out opportunities to share in the work and the fun of Rotary, and most importantly to look within to find the inner Rotarian. Become energized once again by membership in Rotary, an organization that serves the world. The good works we each strive to achieve in Rotary can best be addressed by adopting the theme of service by engagement. Engage Rotary, Change Lives!
