Dear fellow Rotarians,

I hope your week is off to a lovely start! This Wednesday, April 21^st at Noon we will be joined by representatives of the Downeast COVID-19 Task Force. Please watch your email for Zoom details!

The Downeast COVID-19 Task Force was established in the early days of the pandemic to explore community-based solutions and provide a forum for discussion of ongoing challenges around COVID-19 testing, contact tracing, and education. Current members include area town and chamber of commerce leaders, local legislators and leadership from MDI Hospital, Healthy Acadia, The Jackson Laboratory, Mount Desert Island Regional School System (AOS 91), College of the Atlantic and Acadia National Park. Membership in this regional group of community leaders continues to grow.

In addition to the hallmark asymptomatic workforce testing pilot, they have established a medical-grade masking distribution initiative to help provide increased protection for front-facing employees, residents and visitors. To supplement this effort, the town of Bar Harbor has launched a masking distribution effort providing free individually wrapped masks through strategically placed mailboxes in downtown Bar Harbor. They have also produced and distributed a variety of COVID-19 educational materials and infographics, launched a local masking testimonial campaign and worked to reinforce and amplify community awareness of the benefits of proper COVID-19 precautions.
