President's Message
Dear fellow Rotarians,

Happy March! This morning I heard a sweet and gentle birdsong in the forest near our cottage. Spring can’t be too far away.

This Wednesday at Noon we will be joined by Raney Bench, the Executive Director of the Mount Desert Island Historical Society. She is only the fourth person to serve in this role; the Society was founded in 1931, but was led by volunteers until the 1990s. Today, the Historical Society has two museum campuses and three buildings with exhibits.

Raney is passionate about the power of the past and how history impacts our daily lives. She has built a career in small museum work and loves to see people light up when they encounter an interesting or surprising object or artifact. Raney has worked in several small New England museums in education, exhibits, collections management, and as an Executive Director. She and her husband fell in love with Mount Desert Island while here on vacation in 1998 and were fortunate to move here in 2007. Raney graduated with a BA in Native American Studies from Humboldt State University, and a MA in Museum Studies from the University of Nebraska. She and her husband are raising two active boys, plus care for a small menagerie of adopted furry critters.

I hope you will join us on Wednesday, to learn more about the Historical Society and the stories of this unique island! Please watch your email for Zoom details.

Finally, a reminder that we would like to add a section to our Bulletin with member news. Since we are not able to be together in person, many life events can pass without support or celebration. If you have news about yourself (or a fellow Rotarian) that you wish to share, please email me at stefanie@skogcottage.com. Martha and I will make sure it is shared in the next Bulletin.

Yours in service,

Stefanie
