A reminder that there is no meeting this Wednesday, November 27th, due to Thanksgiving week. I hope you have a wonderful “dia de gracias,” along with all your loved ones.

We still need more items, especially for the live auction. In past years, we have had items such as: scratch off lottery tickets or Sip and Paint for 8 from ArtWaves. I also encourage members to be creative and come up with service auction items utilizing your individual talents such as driveway plowing, running errands, babysitting, a family or individual portrait (if you are an artist or photographer), website design, etc. It could be so many things, but I will leave that to you. You can give the items to me before the party or bring them that day. In the meantime, please be sure to let me know what items you are donating and their values ahead of time. This year, all the proceeds of the auction will go to the MDI food pantries.

 

If you still haven’t signed up to volunteer at the Help-Portrait MDI event, you can do so by going to www.helpportraitmdi.com and registering to volunteer. This event will be held on Saturday, December 7^th, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at The Jackson Laboratory. Our club is helping this project with happy/sad dollars from November and December. Help-Portrait is a global movement of photographers and hair stylists using their time, tools and expertise to give back to their community.

 

The spaghetti dinner and silent auction Benefit for Charlene Churchill will be on December 15th at the Moore Community Center, 125 State Street in Ellsworth, from 4-6 p.m. Charlene is a Rotarian from the Ellsworth Rotary Club who was recently diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. She is currently hospitalized at the MD Anderson Cancer Center where she is receiving treatment and aid from medical staff. The Ellsworth Rotary Club is organizing this event to help her to cover some of the expenses. Our club is donating a basket for the silent auction and hopefully some of us can attend the event and support Charlene in her battle with this sad disease. Charlene was one of the people that I got to travel and spend time with while in my PE training. She’s a great Rotarian and human being.
