I was thinking a lot about why people join Rotary, and I think it’s really for two reasons. One is to volunteer and do good. The other is to develop a network as part of their profession. And there is overlap there, obviously. It isn’t all one thing or another.
But people stay in Rotary clubs, usually, because they make friends here – some of those friendships stay for a lifetime.
We are pretty good volunteers in this club. We are really good at supporting organizations. But I’m hoping that this year we can increase two things:
- Understanding about local professional development opportunities.
- Friendships.
So, be prepared for a slightly goofy meeting this week, thanks to the wonderful Jennifer Jones. We’re going to try to get a little bit closer and know each other a little bit better. Again.
Because that’s what Rotary is about. It’s about leaders helping the community and developing their own skills. But it’s also about interactions, connections, and making friends.
If you would like a Rotarian Malaria Partners pin, please let me know by emailing me. I’m proud to say that our club is continuing to support the projects of that organization and its important work. So many thanks to speaker Charley Dickey for visiting last week. There’s a piece in the Bangor Daily News community section about him and about the service awards given to our club and to Ron Wrobel.
I’ll see you Wednesday at Birch Bay Village at noon!
Best wishes,
