Hello everyone,
First of all to all the Veterans out there - we salute you. Thank you for your service and sacrifice.
I would like to thank Past President, Steve Boucher, for stepping up and running the last evening meeting at Pat’s Pizza. I heard we had a good turnout, and everyone had a great time. Also, welcome to Lisa Horsch Clark as our Sargeant-of-Arms for the November-January term.
Last Thursday, the Bar Harbor Rotary club sponsored the 13th annual Living with Cancer Conference. The club had a table within the conference with informational brochures about our club and Rotary International, projects we do within the community and around the world. I hope you had the opportunity to stop by. I ran into Rotarian Jim Mroch, who was eager to hear the speakers and meet with all the exhibitors, and he even agreed to pose for a picture. The Living with Cancer Conference’s goal for this year is to empower survivors, their caregivers, and supporters with information from both the allopathic and integrative medical perspectives, providing tools for self-advocacy; overcoming fear and other negative emotions; and the many ways of increasing well-being.
Bed Races:
Well I have to say that we were down to the wire participating in the Bed Races this year. The Interact club was there on Tuesday to decorate the bed only to find it barricaded in the Emera building. The weather wasn’t the best, and it gets dark so quickly these days; so they were unable to complete their task. When I asked for help, Carrie promptly responded and said she and Shaun would deal with it before Saturday. Many thanks to Carrie Jones and Shaun Farrar for going to the Emera building and moving all the heavy wooden float/traps, decorations and boats that were blocking the bed. Thanks very much guys!
Also, huge thanks to Scott Hammond who showed up Saturday morning to help me wheel the bed from the Emera building to the Village Green. It was a cold morning Saturday, but we made sure that the bed was there by 8:15 a.m. for Interact to start decorating it.
And last but not least, thanks to our PI Chair Aurora Hilton and her son Thomas Hilton. Aurora was the adult Rotarian with the Interact kids, guiding and helping them that morning, and her son Thomas even offered to run the bed with the kids. Thanks Aurora for chaperoning the event. As all you know, Interact ran that bed in a good time and won first place in “Best Decorated” bed. Thanks to all the Rotarians involved in making this happen and a HUGE thanks to MDIHS INTERACT and coordinator Desiree Sirois for happily offering to be part of this event. The Bed Races are family fun time, and hopefully you had time to do some shopping and watch the races.

See you on Wednesday,
