This week, we’re meeting to vote on Susy Del Cid’s slate of incoming officers whose terms will begin in July 2019. You will notice that there is no name in the president’s slot for 2020, which means there is still a vacancy for that position. Susy has sent a quick email survey out about this. Please take the time to fill it out and please don’t worry about your ability to be a president, if that’s what is holding you back. Any of us could do a lovely job.
Many thanks again to the team of volunteers who worked on the holiday event at the Criterion. We raised approximately $1,250 for the nonprofit theater. And many thanks to all of you who created desserts for the Maine Seacoast Mission’s event last Friday. It was also lovely to see Sallie Boggs and Annette Higgins and a whole bunch of Interact students at the YWCA Christmas Bazaar event on Saturday morning.
There’s been a lot of talk recently about our club and why we each have joined and why we’ve each stayed (or not). Some of us have joined to network and meet other professionals. Some of us have joined to give back to our community. We talk as if these two reasons are polarities. They are not. Becoming closer to other Rotarians, trusting them to do business with, is a feeling that’s increased when we participate in service projects and events with those same people. For every act of service and volunteerism we do together, we become a stronger team.
Anthony Bourdain once said, “Without experimentation, a willingness to ask questions and try new things, we shall surely become static, repetitive, and moribund.”
His words apply to us as individuals and our club. I hope that you’ll take them to heart and continue to be involved in projects and meeting experiments as we try to avoid becoming moribund.
There will be multiple opportunities to participate in projects after the holidays. I hope you’ll take those opportunities to help the community, hang out with your fellow Rotarians and make yourself and your relationships within our club even stronger.
