Polio Activities This Week

Hi!

I hope that you all had a fantastic weekend and that some of you were able to participate with our Rotary water table, at the marathon this last Sunday. Stay tuned for more volunteer service projects throughout the year as we intend to be participating in a lot of them, locally.

We have a lot of Polio related activity this week, including this weeks noontime speaker, Scott Boucher (no relation) who is our districts representative for Polio from the Bangor (non-breakfast) club. Also this Sunday, the 22nd, we will be all over town in the afternoon and evening, painting pinkies and selling our "Give Polio the finger" T-shirts. Venues to include, Pats Pizza 12-7 PM, The Thirsty Whale 12-7 PM, the space between the First and BHBT 1-4 PM and the Criterion Theatre 6-7 PM. We still need a few table volunteers to help spread cheer and paint pinkies. Please reach out to Lisa Horsch Clark to grab a spot!

We also have T-shirts for sale, which you can order by contacting Annette Higgins or myself. We have them for all sizes but, they are going quick! Grab one today for $17.50, $10 of every shirt is going towards vaccines and spreading awareness towards the eradication of Polio.

See you all Wednesday!

Best,

Steve

The Rotary Foundation – Purple Pinkie Time

You don’t have to buy a plane ticket to participate in this year’s World Polio Day festivities at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation’s facility in downtown Seattle, Washington, USA. You can watch the event live on 24 October at 14:30 Seattle time (UTC-7) for an update on our global campaign to eradicate polio. A recording of the livestream will be available later. To learn more, visit https://www.rotary.org/en/join-us-online-world-polio-day-2017.

Locally you can help us paint the town PURPLE! On Sunday, October 22, 2017, Bar Harbor/MDI Rotary Club members will paint pinkies for $1 and promote Polio awareness at Pats Pizza from 12 PM-7 PM.  Pats will also donate $1 per pizza (eat in or take out).  We will be painting pinkies for $1 at The Thirsty Whale from 12 PM-7 PM where they will be donating 50 cents a draft as well.  We will be painting pinkies for $1 at the Criterion from 6 PM to 7 PM.  And, we will also be outside selling “Give Polio the Finger” shirts and painting pinkies for $1 at a table between The First and Bar Harbor Banking Trust!

We are THIS close! @EndPolioNow

RLI - Rotary Leadership Institute

The Rotary Leadership Institute will return to District 7790 on Saturday, November 18, 2017 at Lewiston – Auburn College!

This program seeks to strengthen Rotary club leadership through quality, engaging education in both leadership skills and Rotary knowledge.

We hope that these courses will also motivate the participants to be enthusiastic, creative and dedicated Rotarians. This is an outstanding opportunity for each club to improve the Rotary knowledge of its key people, who will also be exposed to new ideas of leadership. The exchange of ideas with other Rotarians makes the courses even more worthwhile.

RLI Parts I, II, III, and the Graduate program will be offered. The course day will start with registration at 7:30 am, and classes from 8:00 am–3:30 pm. The reasonable $95 registration fee includes breakfast, lunch, and coffee break. Please register ahead of time, so we can prepare for size of rooms, amount of food, material needed, etc. We will need to have enough pre-registrations a few weeks prior to the program to ensure that each part will run.

If you have not registered yet: To register, go to the RLI Northeast home page at http://www.rlinea.org/, and click on the Lewiston link in the left column, where you’ll find the Course Registration link.

Many additional details are provided on the Rotary Leadership Institute website at http://www.rlinea.org/. Please feel free to contact me with any questions at dadams@neias.org or 207-632-4721.

Rotary Happenings
When we introduced Rotary Club Central in 2012, it revolutionized goal tracking and planning for clubs and districts — no more filling out paper club-planning forms or passing along boxes of historical club information every time a new leader took office. Rotary Club Central offered clubs and districts a quantifiable way to begin measuring local and global impact, specifically membership initiatives, service activities, and Rotary Foundation giving. But as with any technological advancement, in a few short years, Rotary Club Central began to show its age, and Rotarians took notice. They...

At its January 2017 meeting, the Rotary International Board of Directors adopted a new zone structure for Rotary clubs. Rotary bylaws require the Board to complete a comprehensive review of the 34 Rotary zones no less often than every eight years to ensure that each zone has an approximately equal number of Rotarians. The Board’s previous review of the zones occurred in 2008. The Board earlier approved the creation of three regional workgroups to develop rezoning proposals for Asia, Europe/Africa, and the Americas. These workgroups comprised one representative (either a current director,...

Through The Rotary Foundation, Rotary members have supported thousands of projects that promote peace, fight disease, provide clean water, save mothers and children, support education, and grow local economies. We’ve also led the fight to eradicate polio worldwide. As part of our celebration of the Foundation’s centennial, we’re honoring 20 global grant projects with special recognition. Learn more about the projects using our interactive map.
