Hello Rotarians,
I hope everyone is staying safe and healthy in these challenging times.
I would like to update everyone on what the club will be doing to maintain member engagement during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The District is encouraging clubs to host “virtual meeting experiences” for their members until we can resume in-person meetings and events. I have consulted with the Board of Directors, and we all are on the same page thinking this could be something positive and fun. The idea is to host at least two ZOOM meetings a month, either with a speaker or just to say hi and do fun fellowship activities such as “getting to know your pet.” There are other ways to keep interacting with each other as well. Our social media posts on Facebook and Instagram are a great tool for engaging members and the general community every day.
All this said, we are having our first virtual meeting on Wednesday April 15th at 12:00 p.m., and luckily we have a speaker. Shoshona Smith from Healthy Acadia is honored to be part of our first ZOOM meeting. She will be talking to us about the Neighbor for Neighbor Fund Program that is needed more than ever in these challenging times. I will be sending an invitation by the end of this week for this meeting with all the information you need to know how to access ZOOM. Hopefully, we can have an interesting and informative meeting, and say hi to each other.
A reminder that this Friday April 10th is the deadline to nominate someone for the Non-Rotarian Paul Harris Fellow award. Dean Read is in charge of this task, and he has not received any nominations yet. If you feel that someone within the community is worthy of this award, please send the nomination to Dean by Friday. In these times, I am sure there are a few citizens of MDI that fit this profile.
We don’t know if we are going to meet in person soon, have our annual dinner, or even our Fourth of July fundraiser. We are considering moving the Adventure Golf Fundraiser to the fall, but everything is up in the air right now, and at this point the safety and health of everyone is most important. We will come up with a way to honor all the recipients of the NR Paul Harris, Golden Apple Award, and Scholarship regardless. Things are difficult to coordinate, but I’m sure we will find a way to continue and honor everyone that in one way or another has made a difference in my Rotary term.
