Hey, everyone!
My apologies for being so ill last week and many thanks to Steve Boucher who stepped in to run the Wednesday meeting and also induct our newest member, Josh Yarborough! We’re so glad to have you with us, Josh. For those of you who haven’t met Josh yet, he’s the Vice President, Community Banking Manager at Bar Harbor Bank and Trust, and he and his fantastic family are such a welcome addition to our growing club. Many thanks to his sponsor, Colleen Maynard.
Evening Meeting
We’re having a bit of an issue this week about the evening meeting location. It will either be at Pat’s Pizza (again) or at Mt. Desert Bakery. There is no alcohol available at the bakery. I’ll be sending out an update as soon as we have an exact location.
Little Free Library
Our first build day is Wednesday, May 1, 8 a.m. at the Park Street Playground. It will be super quick thanks to Chris White pre-digging a hole. Come by and make our club look good. It will be short and quick, I promise! You can also donate books by bringing them to a meeting or dropping them off at my house, which is 69 School Street, Bar Harbor. There’s a big porch, and if nobody is home, you can leave them there.
Be Kind MDI- Professional Development
Our district grant this year is to promote civility, active listening skills and anti-bullying resources in a FUN way using the magic of improv, something Rotarian Amy Roeder (Director of the Criterion) knows all about. Be funny! Be a good listener! Be kind! Rotary is holding two workshops to help promote compassion, humor, listening, civility and anti-bullying. We're using the power of improv to make us better people. It's free. It's short. It's fun!
It’s on May 11 at the YWCA.
12-1 for kids!
1:30-3:30 for adults!
Registration is limited to 15 people each session.
Please share it on Facebook so people come, but also YOU can come. Rotarians need these skills just as much as everyone else. Come laugh, support Amy, our club, and our community. Here are links to the
kids event and the
adult event.
Polio Prescription Bottles
Don’t forget that we have a new method of collecting money for polio eradication via the prescription bottles available at the meetings. Just fill them with change, return, and you’ve helped save a life. All the money we raise is matched by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
Annual Meeting
Please sign up soon for the annual meeting at Jack Russell’s Carriage House on
June 19, from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Let
Colleen Maynard know how many will attend and your meal choices. You don’t want to have her chase you down. Please come. Even if we haven’t seen you in a while because life’s been in the way. It’s a great time to catch up and honor each other and check out the new Carriage House.
Adventure Golf Tournament for MDI Hospital’s Oncology Department
The Adventure Golf Project for MDI Hospital’s Oncology Department is fast approaching. If you have brought in hole sponsors in the past, please consider grabbing those again. Or if you have ideas for sponsors, let
John Jagger know. Also, please like and share the
Facebook event. And finally, if you can help
May 18, the day of the event, also let
John know. MAKE A TEAM! It’s so much fun! You know you’re competitive. This is a great way to show it.
I look forward to seeing you all Wednesday!
