123 Wheels Up
If you all remember, I’m hoping to share your Rotary stories each month. This month, I’ve stolen that story from Annette Higgins’ Facebook page. Sorry, Annette!
If you remember, Annette as well as Scott and Debbie Hammond have been in Costa Rica this past week as part of the wheelchair project. Our club, along with Ellsworth and others, raised thousands of dollars to purchase, fit, and distribute wheelchairs. It’s our third year doing this particular international project and I am so proud to be part of a club that does such wonderful things for both our local community and our global community.
Here is what Annette wrote: “Our last day in Costa Rica! Although we didn't get to meet all 123 wheelchair recipients, we met a few, and learned their stories. Ranging from born with or acquired a disability, suffered an accident or sometimes just needed one due to advanced age, our gift of a wheelchair impacted the quality of life not only for the recipient but also their families! Throughout the week, whether in service or enjoying the country's sites, the many Costa Ricans we met, some who are now considered friends enriched our lives as well. Pura Vida!”
If you have any ideas or insights about the types of international projects that you’d like to see our club engage in, please contact Bonnie Tai. Also, please send me your Rotary stories so that I don’t have to filch them off Facebook.
See you Wednesday,
Shaun
P.S. – Yay Trojans boys varsity basketball team, the new state champions!
