On behalf of all of us at Mount Desert Island Hospital, I would like to extend our sincere thanks for your generous and ongoing support through the annual Miniature Golf Tournament, held on May 18th. We are truly grateful for the incredible $5,000 raised this year in support of our food security programs—a strategic focus for our organization and a growing need in our community. Your partnership directly supports our mission to foster the health and vibrancy of the MDI community. The impact of your efforts reaches far beyond the day of the event—your commitment helps ensure that future generations are nourished, supported, and cared for. This is a profound gift, and we are honored to have the MDI Rotary Club as a steadfast ally in this vital work. Thank you for all you do to uplift and strengthen our island community. We are excited to continue this meaningful collaboration.
With gratitude,
Christina J. Maguire, President and Chief Executive Officer
MDI Hospital and Birch Bay Retirement Village
Volunteer Opportunity - The Juneteenth Committee is looking for volunteers at Knowlton Park on June 19th, 3:30-7 PM. Every year, Juneteenth commemorates the day in 1865 that Black Americans in Galveston, Texas were first told that they were freed from slavery, nearly two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation. Annual Juneteenth Downeast events leverage the power of visual arts, spoken word, music, call and response, and group participation/collaboration to: illuminate the continuum of the Black experience in Maine; celebrate the rich legacy and contributions of Black Mainers; honor the dedication and sacrifices of so many in past and present struggles for racial justice;raise awareness about the importance of Juneteenth; and heal, uplift, and reenergize BIPOC members of the community.
Annual Meeting - Our Annual Meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, June 25th, at 5 p.m. at the Nor'Easter Restaurant, 10 Huntington Road, Northeast Harbor. Watch this space for more details about the meeting.
