Well, for those of you who missed the bed races on Saturday morning, you missed an incredibly thrilling race. This event featured 12 teams of highly trained, finely tuned athletes crewing fantastic racing beds that appeared to have been designed in the most high-tech facilities available to bed racers! Our very own Rotary / Park Street Playground Project bed finished a very respectable 4^th and missed the “top three” cut off by a mere 6/100ths of a second. That is six one hundredths of a second, ladies and gentlemen. I think we need to give our runners (and of course the rider) a thunderous round of applause for their commitment to the sport!

 

Many, many thanks go out to Carrie Jones for dusting off the bed and resurrecting our race program (as well as wearing Wonder Woman pajamas on race day), Chris White for tuning and prepping the bed for this year’s competition, Steve Boucher for being the “lead” runner (and for running in a pair of Flash Gordon pajamas), Pete Nicholson for being the “new guy” runner (and for wearing pajamas as well), Interact member Cassia Shalish Barnes for being a runner, Interact member Fischer Brown for being a runner and lastly, Interact member Raisha Lipski for being the rider, which may be the scariest of all positions on the team (Please note that all of the Interact members were way too cool to be caught in public in a pair of pajamas)! Without you all we would not have a racing program of awesome!!

 

One last thing before I depart, regardless of your color preference, be it red, blue, or green the fantastic part of being a card carrying member of a non-political humanitarian organization is that we have the ability to leave some of our differences at home so that we can continue to march forward in the solidarity of “Serving Humanity” in a “Service Above Self” manner.
