Greetings Rotary friends!
We meet this Wednesday at noon at the Atlantic Oceanside to hear a presentation from Davin O'Connell, President of the MDI Search and Rescue (SAR). SAR saw a huge increase in work last year due to the increased visitation to the park and the island. To recognize their good work, we selected them to be the recipients of our Happy and Sad Dollars earlier in this Rotary year.
From their website:
Established in 1982, SAR is an all-volunteer, nonprofit service organization that provides search and rescue assistance on Mount Desert Island and surrounding communities. MDI SAR team members respond to callouts by Acadia National Park, the Maine Warden Service, and local police and fire departments. Capabilities of our team include ground searches for missing persons, emergency wilderness medicine, and technical rope rescue.
We recently received an update from past president Susy Del Cid. She writes:
Just a quick note to let you know that the Rotary Club of Panama has delivered 89 wheelchairs throughout the country to date. They have in inventory 26 wheelchairs that will keep delivering under the new President of the club. They would like to let the Bar Harbor, Ellsworth and Bangor Breakfast Clubs know their most sincere gratitude for all the help.
MARK YOUR CALENDARS - Bar Harbor/MDI Rotary Club Annual Dinner and Awards Extravaganza on Wednesday, June 29 at 5 p.m. at Jack Russell’s in Bar Harbor - $40 and all are welcome – family, friends, prospective members…bring them all along for the fun!
We had a great new prospective member attend our last meeting…welcome Logan Schwartz! Logan joined us thanks to the introduction by Penny Read. Penny…you are such a great (almost) Rotarian…why don’t you join our club!
See you on Wednesday,
Lisa
P.S. In case you missed it earlier, here is the link for the signups for the 4
th of July. Everyone in the club is required to help; so find a place to insert yourself. If you responded to Ron’s survey earlier this year, I put you in but check to make sure I have you in the right place. Plenty of cool jobs left, like cashiers for breakfast and lunch, pancake cooker at breakfast and condiment Queen at lunch!
