I heard we had a delightful meeting last Wednesday at the Abbe Museum. I would like to thank incoming president Stefanie Joy Muscat for leading the meeting and of course thanks to the Abbe Museum for hosting us.  I would have loved to be there with all of you, but I spent some quality time with my daughter on her 21st birthday down in Portland. I am glad everything went well and everyone had a good time.

 

On September 11th, five members of the club are volunteering to help assemble duffle bags with the purpose of providing comfort for youth as they enter the foster care system. Thanks to Colleen Maynard, Chris White, Josh Yarbrough and Steve Boucher for giving up a little bit of their time to help with this great service project. We will be at Leslie Robinson’s shed at her house, and it can fit eight people; so if someone else feels like coming and can lend a hand, please let us know. We are carpooling from Thompson Island, Wednesday Sept 11 at 3:00 p.m.

 

I would like to thank Aurora Hilton for all her efforts to find the recipients of RYLA this year. The club will sponsor Joanna Robinson Clark from our club and Zackary Taibi who was nominated by Amy Roeder and Mark Tipton from the Criterion. Joannna and Zackary will be representing our club and learning the ropes of leadership September 13th through the 15th at Adventure Bound in Caratunk, ME.

 

The District Assembly is coming, and this year it takes place on Saturday, October 5th at Hotel LE Georgesville, Saint Georges QC, Canada from 1:30 to 4:00 p.m. Each club in the district is asked to send at least one representative to learn about the activities of Rotary at the district level and vote on important issues. I am planning to go. The District Assembly is an excellent opportunity to learn more about Rotary and what we do at the district level and is a great opportunity to meet people from other clubs in Maine and Quebec. I strongly encourage you to attend the District Assembly. Let me know if you want to join me.

 

The Rotary Leadership Institute (RLI) will return to District 7790 on Saturday, November 16, 2019 at Lewiston Auburn College. Last year, we sent a few members that completed Part I, and I definitely encourage them to continue with Part II. I also encourage new members to register for the first time and complete all levels. Last year, I completed Part III. I am in the Graduate Program and have found it beneficial and will continue with it. The RLI seeks to provide quality education in Rotary knowledge and leadership skills to Rotarians interested in developing their Rotary participation and to those identified by Rotary clubs as having the potential for club leadership. These educational opportunities will teach skills that will benefit the members in their lives and in their volunteer service. If you would like to begin or continue your education in Rotary, please let me know as soon as possible.

 

 

In view of the annual turnover of Rotary leadership each year, special effort is required to provide the 27,000 club leaders with appropriate instruction for the tasks they will assume. The annual district assembly is the major leadership training event in each Rotary district of the world. The district assembly offers motivation, inspiration, Rotary information and new ideas for club officers, directors and key committee chairpersons of each club. Some of the most experienced district leaders conduct informative discussions on all phases of Rotary administration and service projects. The assembly gives all participants valuable new ideas to make their club more effective and interesting. Usually eight to ten delegates from each club are invited to attend the training session. Another important feature of a district assembly is a review by the incoming district governor of the program theme and emphasis of the new RI president for the coming year. District goals and objects are also described, and plans are developed for their implementation. The success of each Rotary club is frequently determined by the club's full representation and participation in the annual district assembly.
