President's Message

Hola Rotarios,

We have been lucky the last few weeks with perfect summer weather. Summer days always make me feel revitalized, positive, and full of energy. In our hectic and busy lives, we should always make time for ourselves and do what we like to do, whether it is to go hiking, swimming, sailing, shopping, or sharing time with friends and loved ones. Because it won't be long until the cool breezes of September arrive, then the colorful foliage and brisk weather of October, and then it's only a matter of time until inevitability hits and light fluffy flakes start falling from the skies…and you know what that means. Bottom line is, go out, have fun and enjoy the rest of this summer.

I had the opportunity for the first time to attend the Ellsworth Rotary Annual Pancake breakfast last Saturday. It was great to see some fellow Rotarians from our sister club (and I have to say the pancakes were yummy), and I had a great time sharing some time with them. A big thank you to Scott Hammond from our club for showing up and volunteering for their event;  showing that Rotarians help each other and are people of action, and service above self is our motto. The proceeds of this event will aid scholarships and charities such as the Wheelchair Project, our shared project with the Ellsworth Club that started 5 years ago and so far has distributed 473 chairs in 4 countries: Panama, Belize, Costa Rica and the Dominican Republic. Next year will be back in another part of Panama to deliver 115 more wheelchairs. I invite you to join us next February and make a difference through the gift of mobility.

August is Membership and Extension month in Rotary, which means it’s time to celebrate your Rotary club, your members, and the good you do in the community and around the world. All Rotarians are ambassadors of Rotary and their clubs. This is especially relevant during Membership and Extension month, when the focus is on building strong, vibrant clubs by inviting prospective members to join Rotary. I invite you to say it loud and say it proud. Let everyone know that you are proud to be a member; update your Facebook profile with the Grow Rotary or Proud member frame. This is one way to celebrate the Membership and Extension month. I also invite you to bring a friend, family member, or co-worker to one of our regular meetings, social gatherings, or even service projects. Give them a chance to get to know Rotary like you do, and what Rotary is all about.

Do you have a great idea for growing our club? Submit your idea to Steve Boucher, Membership Committee Chair.

This Wednesday we will have our social gathering at Art Waves Studios in Town Hill.  Club member Liz Cutler promises it will be a great evening. As usual, our club will provide the food, and Liz will be making some delicious appetizers. The gathering is BYOB. Come join us and bring a friend as I am sure it will be fun.

See you Wednesday,
