Happy holidays, everyone!
First, a quick reminder that there is no meeting Wednesday, December 26th.
Our December fines are heading to the Never Counted Out Project in Chico, CA, which even before the devastating Paradise Camp Fire was working to help youth in the area.
The
#campfire gained international attention in November as it raged through the town of Paradise, CA., destroying 90% of the town, taking the lives of at least 88 people, displacing thousands of people. Some are still in shelters in Chico and in nearby Gridley. Never Counted Out like many organizations and businesses, joined the efforts to support those affected by the #campfire. The need extends beyond the initial crisis, and the organization wants to help teachers, youth and their families the best it can. While Rotary is sending a donation from our happy/sad dollars and fines, individuals can also ship books, supplies and gift cards to:
Eunice Charlton
C/O Never Counted Out
1692 Mangrove Ave #2010
Chico, CA 95926
According to Eunice, “We've collected over six hundred books and raised just over $900 dollars in gift cards/money donations. We will share gift cards with the families of Ridgeview High School, Honey Run Academy and some younger kids who have been placed in Bidwell Middle School.”
Paradise High School is currently inside the Chico Mall and then will be at the Chico Airport. Books and supplies are desperately needed for these high school kids who have lost not just their school, but their community.
I really appreciate the Board approving happy dollars/fines for this organization for December and want to thank all of you for empowering young people. You, unequivocally, rock!

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about the Rosenthal or Pygmalion Effect defined by Rosenthal as, ““the phenomenon whereby one person’s expectation for another person’s behavior comes to serve as a self-fulfilling prophecy” (American Psychologist,Nov. 2003, p. 839).
One of the beautiful things about Rotary is how we can do that; we can have high expectations for each other and our club because we know we have the power to make a difference.
Thank you and I hope you have a wonderful holiday!
