Greetings, Rotarians,

Remembering Past President Sue Kropff:
For those of you who may not have heard, our Past President Sue Freytag Kropff, died on Friday, October 25th. I wanted to share some of what Sue’s son Drew posted on his Facebook page:

“Russell and I are sad to share that our mom, Sue, passed away this morning. She has been surrounded by family and lots of love, and over the past few days we have gotten to spend some really special time with her. She has impacted so many lives. Hundreds of brides, moms, families, and loved ones, whether she made their flower arrangements for their ceremony, Mother's day, birthday, or planned and executed their perfect day at one of her venues. Hundreds and hundreds of kids as their pre-school teacher, childcare director, or camp director, or just as the mom whose house was always safe and fun to go to where there was always fresh homemade cookies. The community of Bar Harbor where she helped build a group of amazing women who raise money for cancer research, the Rotary club where she continued the family tradition of serving as president, and an innumerable list of others who just knew she would be there to help. Our plan is to bring her home to the island in the spring and have a small gathering so everyone can say goodbye.”

MDI Marathon Update from Scott Hammond:
It was a beautiful morning on Sunday October 20 for the MDI Marathon, Half and Relay. Some of us arrived at 8 am, and the rest shortly after, to set up and provide needed water and Gatorade to all of the runners at Mile 18 supported by the Bar Harbor Rotary. Maybe because of the gorgeous weather, but this year seemed even busier than in the past, as we all hustled to manage the first wave of half-marathon runners (starting in NEH) around 9:15. It took all of us filling and passing out cups to the thirsty runners heading up the hill on Rt 198 across from the Old Schoolhouse Museum. Then, after a short respite, we again all worked together very efficiently to hydrate the marathoners between 10 and noon. We needed everyone's help, and so I would like to thank Dick Fox, Collleen Maynard, Sally Boggs, Mike Marino, and Tricia, Gavin, Abby and Nora Thurlow for their help in making this a very successful service project to our community. We couldn't have done it without the whole team! It was tiring, fun and fulfilling all at the same time. Please let me know if you would like to participate next year.

Club Assembly October 30th:
Our next meeting will be a Club Assembly on Wednesday, October 30th, at 12 pm in the Cadillac Cafe at the Atlantic Oceanside Hotel. Please use the elevator or stairs from the main hotel lobby to get to the Cafe which is located on the P level of the hotel. The chef will serve us burgers and fries with a surprise dessert!

Please let me know if you have any news or announcements for future Bulletins.

Have a great week!
