Upcoming Events

Happy Halloween everyone!

I hope that you all who do participate, have a fun and safe evening. For those of you who don't, have a great Tuesday!

Bed Races. This November 11th, the chamber of commerce is going to be hosting their annual pajama day sale. The past few years we have been participating in the bed races by having a team run the Rotary bed of amazing! This year we are hoping to still participate and would love to have two Rotarian's help run with Interact. Please let me know asap if you are interested. No need to worry if you are not traditionally an athlete, it's all about fun and fellowship, (it would be nice to win, too). The whole event is maybe two hours at most. I would normally run but will not be in town, in the past, though, I have had a lot of fun and am sorry to miss it this year.

Evening Meeting. Remember, this Wednesday we will be meeting at Midtown Burger for our monthly evening meeting, at 5 PM. Midtown is connected to the Atlantic Brewery across the street from the post office on Cottage Street. We will be upstairs and the brewery will also be open. This will be a great space to bring a friend or prospective Rotary member, so think of someone you know and bring them along!

Grant Management Seminar. MOST IMPORTANT! We still need someone from our club to attend the Grant management seminar in Waterville, this Saturday from:

This is for next years grants. If we do not have someone there we will NOT be able to apply for a grant for club projects next year. You would not be required to write a grant, we just need to have a club member in attendance. This is very important to the club. Please let Carrie Jones or myself know ASAP if you would like to go. The club will pay for all travel expenses.

Have a great week everyone!

Steve

What's Happening
Membership Committee

The Membership Committee will be meeting at MidTown Burger at 4:30 on Wednesday, immediately before our evening meeting. Anyone can attend and share ideas about membership and hear about our work so far this year.

We'll be meeting to talk about the proposed revitalized Associate Member Program as well as Nancy's idea to reinvigorate a weekly breakfast-style get-together for those of us who have issues attending noon and/or evening meetings as well as follow-up membership leads. We've had three new members (Tim Rich, Clare Bingham and Ginger) since the beginning of the Rotary year, but I bet we can get a lot more as winter approaches.

I look forward to seeing many of you there and thank you all for your work on the membership committee. I apologize that work and Rotary International obligations have kept me traveling a lot recently, but that should slow down a bit soon.

Best,

Carrie

Happy Dollars & Fines

Happy/Sad dollars and fines for November are going to Thanksgiving baskets. Here is some information on the project:

The MDI Thanksgiving Basket Project is an annual community-wide effort to provide all the fixings for a turkey dinner to those in need. Order forms are available at the Bar Harbor Food Pantry, the MDI Housing Authority, and the Westside Food Pantry. Last year, a record-breaking 258 households received a bounty of turkey/chicken dinners including fresh and canned vegetables, stuffing, cranberry sauce, fresh-baked pies, and more. Food was collected at area banks and schools, donated by local business people, and sorted and packed by more than 100 volunteers of all ages. Donations are sought to help to defray the expenses of food purchases including the turkey and chicken, as well as canned vegetables, cranberry sauce, and more.

Thanks,

Scott Hammond

Rotary Happenings
When we introduced Rotary Club Central in 2012, it revolutionized goal tracking and planning for clubs and districts — no more filling out paper club-planning forms or passing along boxes of historical club information every time a new leader took office. Rotary Club Central offered clubs and districts a quantifiable way to begin measuring local and global impact, specifically membership initiatives, service activities, and Rotary Foundation giving. But as with any technological advancement, in a few short years, Rotary Club Central began to show its age, and Rotarians took notice. They...

At its January 2017 meeting, the Rotary International Board of Directors adopted a new zone structure for Rotary clubs. Rotary bylaws require the Board to complete a comprehensive review of the 34 Rotary zones no less often than every eight years to ensure that each zone has an approximately equal number of Rotarians. The Board’s previous review of the zones occurred in 2008. The Board earlier approved the creation of three regional workgroups to develop rezoning proposals for Asia, Europe/Africa, and the Americas. These workgroups comprised one representative (either a current director,...

Through The Rotary Foundation, Rotary members have supported thousands of projects that promote peace, fight disease, provide clean water, save mothers and children, support education, and grow local economies. We’ve also led the fight to eradicate polio worldwide. As part of our celebration of the Foundation’s centennial, we’re honoring 20 global grant projects with special recognition. Learn more about the projects using our interactive map.
