This week at Birch Bay, we will be welcoming our Maine State governor, Paul LePage. We expect a larger turnout than normal so if you are expecting to bring anyone please let me know so I can do my best to keep general count; I have been told we have a room capacity of 70 (though, I don't expect it to get to that point, fingers crossed). I would expect everyone to put their best Rotarian foot forward and be welcoming and accommodating.
There will be a meeting of the Public Image Committee on Monday, August 7th, at 5 pm at my home (119 Seabury Drive in Salisbury Cove). We have some very BIG shoes to fill now that Carrie is transitioning off the committee, and I'm looking for volunteers to help me continue the great job that Carrie has done for our club! One of our newest members, Aurora Hilton, has already volunteered (thanks Aurora!). Please let me know if you're interested in serving on the Public Image Committee, and if you are, please let me know if you can attend this meeting.
We really hope to do a lot of exciting stuff this year and next to make our club thrive, but to do that we need a lot of input and ideas. I know that as I transition from public image to membership for this year, I'm going to need a lot of advice from people who have done this before and know the ropes and also people who have new ideas.

The YWCA of MDI's summer pie sales are in full swing! They have bakers signed up for 12 pies this Tuesday, July 18th, but they could sell more than that because 23 pies were sold at the July 11th sale.
They also need more people to sign up for July 25, August 1, August 8, August 15, August 22, August 29, September 5, and September 12.
In short, we could really use eight to ten more bakers to sign up for the season.

To the many of you who have been wanting to offer help for the victims of the wildfires currently burning in the Cariboo region of the Province, the best route to do that is through the established charities already at work such as The Red Cross or Disaster Aide Canada. These charities have the resources on the ground now and are at work as the situation continues. They are also Canada Revenue Agency registered organizations able to issue charitable tax receipts for donations.
The impacted Rotary district, which is part of our zone, hopes to set up a special and separate fund for contributions to help with recovery once the needs are known and identified. This fund will be centrally administered and held as a special Rotary account until the local Rotary clubs in the affected areas can assess recovery and possible rebuilding needs in their communities. These funds would then be made available to the local Rotary clubs for appropriate projects in their communities. More information about this effort will be passed on to you all as soon as we know.

At its January 2017 meeting, the Rotary International Board of Directors adopted a new zone structure for Rotary clubs.
