I am writing this today as my very first meeting as president takes place this Wednesday at Birch Bay, exciting stuff! I would take a moment and first thank past president Shaun Farrar for all the fantastic work he has done in his year as president, especially initializing Rotary to spearhead the Park Street Playground project. The community owes a great thanks to him for re-igniting the movement to have the playground built. I should only hope that I can take the same momentum and work ethic into my year as President. I should mention that I'm probably not as anecdotal as Shaun with writing these messages but I will do my best to keep you informed and most importantly, entertained.
On another note, could there be a better time to come into the presidency with a record breaking year at the pancake breakfast and seafood festival?!?!? You all helped gross over $40,000! Great job by everyone that volunteered, thanking you for taking time out of your busy schedules for such worthy causes that our club works with. A very special thank you to two people who I consider the heart and soul of the festival (they can decide who heart and who is soul), Bob Recholtz and Ron Wrobel. Thank you both for your tireless efforts with organizing and executing the festival year in and year out, you both have set a high standard for being a Rotarian.
Going into this year my focus plans to be heavy with our club membership and also presenting a clear positive image to the public about all the amazing work you have all done, most importantly, how they can become a part of it. I will be meeting frequently with Carrie Jones (membership chair) and Martha Abbott (PR chair) to brainstorm ways that we can increase our membership while also sending a positive message to the community about all the fantastic work that Rotary does. I would also encourage all of you to find a committee (admin, service, PR, membership, foundation) to be part of this year. We strongly need your input and participation. Stay tuned for a club calendar that will have a schedule for all committee meetings and club assemblies. In the mean time I would encourage anyone that has any feedback or maybe anything they would like to see more (or less) involving our club to please reach out to me. Happy to meet with anyone of you that has ideas going forward.
So this is it! Ready? Set? GO! Onward and upward into our 17/18 year! Looking forward to working with everyone to help establish Rotary as cornerstone of our community and continue all the important work you do!

Noontime Rotary Club of Ellsworth to Host Annual Electronic Waste Recycling Event
Ellsworth, ME – The Noontime Rotary Club of Ellsworth once again is organizing a day for collection and recycling of old and broken electronics. E-waste will be accepted from 7:00 a.m. to noon on Saturday, July 22, in Home Depot’s parking lot in Ellsworth. This event is open to residents from any Maine community and items may be recycled for free with donations gratefully accepted.
