President's Message
Hola Rotarios,

I hope you all are enjoying the holidays, surrounded by family and friends both near and far. As the year ends, I would like to extend my sincere thanks and appreciation to all of you, members of the Bar Harbor/MDI Rotary Club for your dedication and service to this club during the year 2019. Our club is successful thanks to all of you. I am looking forward to continuing to serve the club as President for the next 6 months and accomplish more in terms of service, volunteering, and giving back to the local and international community.

I was reading an article in the Rotarian (Rotary magazine) that states why community service is so important. The 10 top reasons are:
#10:      It's good for you.
#9:        It saves resources.
#8:        Volunteers gain professional experience.
#7:        It brings people together.
#6:        It promotes personal growth and self esteem.
#5:        Volunteering strengthens your community.
#4:        You learn a lot.
#3:        You get a chance to give back.
#2:        Volunteering encourages civic responsibility.
#1:        You make a difference.

On a sad note, last month we learned that Rotarian Charlene Churchill from the Ellsworth Rotary Club was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Charlene died on Sunday, Dec. 22nd, in her hometown in Heath, Massachusetts. The Ellsworth club organized a dinner and fundraiser so she could travel from Texas, where she was receiving treatment, to her hometown, where she died. Charlene was a great Rotarian, Paul Harris fellow, and exemplary of the Rotary value of service above self.  She will be missed by many.

Our next meeting will be on January 8th which will be our evening meeting of the month at Pat’s Pizza. As usual, we will meet at 5:00 pm for what should be a fun and relaxing meeting after the holidays. Hope to see you all there.

Warmest thoughts and best wishes for the New Year.

Happy 2020,
Feliz Año Nuevo!!
