The Park Street Playground is steaming ahead. Many thanks to Jenna Horton Boucher and her team. The May 20 Adventure Golf Tournament at Pirate’s Cove is benefitting the playground this year. If the voters of the Town of Bar Harbor approve the town council’s request for funding, we will be incredibly close to meeting our fundraising goal. That said, we haven’t met the goal yet. So if you’d like to sponsor a hole at the tournament ($100) or a team ($50) please contact the chair Peter Nicholson at Peter.Nicholson@thefirst.com or 288-3341 ext 319. A newer city councilor was just talking on Facebook about how enthused he was about the playground project and confident that Rotary would get it done. That says a lot about what the club has been doing and the respect that it has in our community. In order to continue that respect, I hope that you all conduct yourself with decorum when talking on public sites such as Facebook about town matters or projects that the club is involved with.

 

On May 16 at 7 p.m., the MDI High School Interact Club will be showing “Sold,’ again raising funds for Project Starfish, which fights human trafficking, particularly in Cambodia. These high school students deserve both our applause and support. I hope you’ll take the time to attend. It’s going to be shown at the high school and the students are handling all the publicity and organization themselves.

 

Thank you again for the service that you give to the community, the funds you raise, and the fellowship you provide. At our noon meeting, President Elect Steven Boucher will talk about his goals this year and we will also vote on bylaw changes. I have every confidence that Steve will take Rotary in a forward-moving direction. I hope that you’ll be there Wednesday.
