Rotarians,

 

I often say this, and quite frankly I think we all say it at some point, but it’s hard to believe it’s already the end of the season. I remember recently writing about enjoying the summer and how busy everyone was and now it’s nearly gone. At the same time, to be honest with you, I am ready for some peace and quiet in the town of Bar Harbor.

 

To me, being President is rewarding in a lot of ways.  Yes, it’s a lot of work, but it’s also continual education about Ending Polio, promoting peace, fighting disease, providing clean water, supporting education, saving mothers and children, growing local economies, and disaster response. And not to mention all the programs Rotary International offers: Youth exchange, RYLA, Peace Fellowship, Rotary community corps, grants, scholarships, friendship exchange, and the new generation service exchange. We have all heard about the majority of them, and in my case when I don’t know about one of them, I find out more about it.

 

For instance the Friendship Exchange. In this program, Rotary members and non-members take turns hosting one another in their homes and clubs. You get to genuinely experience another culture, guided by friends in Rotary. Exchange participants take turns hosting and visiting one another, forging friendships that last a lifetime. Exchanges also offer unique chances for cultural immersion and interchange. Some incorporate educational opportunities for professionals of any age to build global understanding and boost vocational and leadership skills. I have received an email from the district reminding all clubs to start looking for incoming officers for next year. I know incoming President Stefanie Joy Muscat has been looking for members to fill those positions. Please let her know as soon as possible if you are interested in being a part of her board of directors for the year 2020-2021. This needs to be completed by the end of November. Also, Stefanie and current officers will be looking for the President Nominee position to be filled in the year 2021-2022. Any takers? Having a clear succession plan for all the key positions in our club is a key to success in the future.
