Last week we had a very passionate presentation from Melanie Dresser, the new Executive Director of Camp Capella. Their mission is “to provide quality of life experiences for people with disabilities and their families by providing year-round recreational and educational experiences.” It was obvious from her talk that Mel is very committed to providing these opportunities for the campers. Afterwards, we found out that our usual server at Atlantic Oceanside, Carolyn Miller, has two children in wheelchairs who went to Camp Capella for the first time this summer and loved it! Carolyn is also very passionate about the program. I will bring to the board next month a proposal to make a donation to the camp, and I asked Mel to let us know about a future work opportunity, perhaps as part of a spring clean-up, and maybe we could round up a few members to do some hands-on service.

 

Speaking of hands-on service, I want to thank Mike Gurtler and Bill Lustusky for helping set up tents for the Jesup book sale on Saturday.
