The Rotary International theme for Mark Maloney’s presidency is Rotary Connects the World. This is true and it’s just as important to remember when we work in our clubs to connect our community. Mr. Maloney’s presidency begins in July.
At our last meeting, Aurora Hilton spoke about how her time at Rotary Youth Leadership Institute (RYLA) connected her to young professionals and Rotarians throughout our district, which includes part of Maine and Quebec. Every year we can send up to two people between the ages of 21 and 35 to RYLA where they learn leadership skills, have fun, and learn a bit about Rotary. If there’s someone you think would be great to go, let me know.
This summer the Rotary International Convention is in Hamburg, Germany. That’s another great way to connect with Rotarians.
Details are here.
Slightly, more locally the Zone conference for Canada, France, Bermuda and parts of U.S. will be in Niagara Falls, NY, from September 19- 21. Traditionally our club can help fund part of the cost per board approval.
For more information on the Zone event check here.
Our own district conference is May 3 in Scott, Quebec. This is a gathering of all the clubs in our district and a great chance to see what other clubs are doing and to make Rotary friends.
More information is here. It’s from May 3- 5. Again, our club can help fund part of your cost per board approval.
The club is giving out up to $2k in interest-free loans to government employees impacted by the shutdown. For more information and the application, please check my earlier email and please share with people who might need help. Thanks, Mike for doing that! Thanks to Ron for the idea! Speaking of emails, Scott Hammond sent out an email about former member Mike Bonsey needing support for a Polar plunge against Polio.
This Wednesday, Amy Roeder (awesome Rotarian and Criterion Theatre director) will give her classification talk. Come hang out with Amy at noon, Birch Bay.
