President's Message

Wonderful Rotarians,

As most of you know, one of the duties of the Club’s president is to write a message every week for our Rotary Bulletin. This happens to be a task that I greatly enjoy. I enjoy it because I find it to be challenging to come up with an idea to talk about every week, to make my written words somewhat interesting and on the best of weeks, maybe even a little inspirational. This is not a special gift that I have, nor do I think of myself as the best motivator in the world. Often, I find it to be something that requires a lot of thought, that being the main reason why my messages are sent in late, almost weekly. On many a message writing occasion, I have visited Rotary websites to help inspire me, as I did so today.

The newly reformatted Rotary International website is, compared to what it used to be, a much more user-friendly and attention-grabbing format for Rotary information, tools, and membership recruitment. If you have not visited the website lately, I strongly urge you to do so.

Alas, that is not what I am writing about, but it is where I got the idea. As I stated earlier, I am not the greatest motivator or storyteller in the world, but I do realize that the two things can, and often do, go hand and hand. A great story can be a great motivator without even the slightest intent of motivation behind the telling. So, I am going to propose that I forgo my message writing for one week a month, and instead, a member will submit a “Rotary story.” I will set no guidelines, other than the story must be Rotary focused and positive in the end. I believe that this is a great way to share our Rotary experiences with each other and possibly to have stories heard that have not been heard before or only by a few.

If you have a Rotary story to share, and I know that many of you do, please let me know via an email. I will schedule the Rotary story to be in the bulletin which is due out the first Tuesday of every month, so to meet that timeframe, please email me your story by the preceding Sunday. I am very much looking forward to reading about events that have helped to shape you as a Rotarian!

See you Wednesday,

Shaun

Backpack Project

Hello and Happy New Year!  I hope you had a wonderful time over the holidays :)

This is a reminder of the Congregational Church's Backpack program as it continues through the new year.  But first, I would like to thank those who participated!  Thank you! Also, a special thank you to Steve Boucher for being the first person to sign up in the fall, and to attend each month's backpack program.  Thanks Steve!

Now, as for January-June, these are the following dates that are available to volunteer.  Again, as a reminder the volunteering is once per month on a Friday morning until the end of the school year.  We meet at the Congregational Church in Bar Harbor for one hour at 8am.  Dates are:

January 20
February 17
March 17
April 21
