Greetings Rotary friends!
We meet this Wednesday at noon at the Atlantic Oceanside for lunch and a wonderful talk with David Vela, retired, longtime National Park Service employee who most recently served as Deputy Director of the National Park Service and Exercising the Authority of the Director. David will discuss his book Hola Ranger which chronicles the life story of a Latino growing up in the farmlands of Southeast Texas, his first visit to a national park, and the impact that it had on his life. Read more about David and his career here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Vela.

Golden Apple nominations are now open for a local educator. Read about the award and how you or a member of the public can nominate a deserving educator here: https://portal.clubrunner.ca/5539/sitepage/community-awards. Contact Lynn Verrill at lynn@friendsofacadia.org with questions. While you are there (https://portal.clubrunner.ca/5539/sitepage/community-award), please review the details for another of our annual awards, the Non-Rotarian Paul Harris Award. Dean Read (dsread47@gmail.com) is leading the effort, and nominations are due April 22. Club members may nominate an MDI or outer island resident who is not now and has never been a Rotarian but exhibits the traits of a true Rotarian by making significant contributions to our greater community outside his/her employed position. Think not only of higher profile community leaders, but also lower profile people who just go about their daily lives volunteering and helping make MDI a better place to live and work.
Looking forward to another great week and meeting.
Lisa
